Fished below the hut and had a good session, river coloured and rising, fished 4oz feeder in the middle. Good beat, better if you have a 4x4 for access.

Another enjoyable day, all baits caught, weather good, and a few salmon jumped in front of us. the two lads doing a cracking job strimming the swims gave us a few pointers.

Great beat with good access. Lots of action in the morning but it all went a bit slow after 2pm.

Fresh Run Cock Salmon 41 inches (estimated at 25lbs) caught by Monty Bishop spinning. Safely returned although may not survive as it had seal/otter open wound bites to head.

After a day at HL3 which was very tough, the day at HL4 was even tougher. Conditions same as yesterday - river low and clear and freezing overnight temperatures. Not even a bite to maggots. Plenty of wildlife, lovely stretch of river, good pegs.

Looking forward to a return at some point to level the scores.

I met Monty on arrival who helpfully suggested a couple of swims. The river looked good and I started fishing in hazy sunshine which soon became very bright and continuous for the rest of the day. After about two hours without a touch I was preparing to bait up another swim when I had a barbel bite that was even more savage than usual. It became clear that I was into a good fish and after a dogged struggle I netted a 9lb 10oz specimen. Naturally I gave up all thoughts of moving, in the hope that there were more fish in my swim. However, after another couple of bite-less hours, despite changing baits and tactics, I had no more success. By this time it was really too late to move elsewhere and I waited for some action as the light faded. It was not to be, so net result was one bite and one (very nice) barbel.

We block booked this beat. River still dropping and colour falling out.
Most of the barbel came from the flagstones by the hut.
Bit of a shame you can't drive past the hut anymore.
Some great swims down there around the pot area.
Not a great distance to walk.

Water had dropped and cleared. Blinking hard day with fish early and then nothing until it was getting dark. Salmon in or around for much of the day.
