Sunny day with some cloud. With a cold upstream wind. Very slow hatches of LDO and March Browns from noon onwards. Successful patterns were jinglers and March brown emergers.

A brighter day but still cooled by a horrid easterly wind. Very little hatching and no fish showing until a short hatch of march browns in the run-out of the pool below the house, which delivered three fish.

Lots of water in the river but good visability. Cool east wind, sunny spells.Started at the bottom of the beat, nothing rising so tried nymphing, had 3 fish, all under a pound. Moved upstream expecting to see some hatching LDO's but only saw 2 or 3 and no rising fish. Worked upstream to the bridge nymphing a few stretches on the way. No more fish caught and only saw one rising fish.

Fabulous beat, very long and lots of fishing and good runs and pools in a amazing location. Flows dropping, but still quite a striong flow, sunny conditions and warming up. Tout caught on malyfly nymphs or dry fly with a few fish rishing. Several trout landed to around 1lb and two excellent tout to 2.5lb or so, taken on dry fly. Certainly this will be a beat to visit again!!!

River high and flowing very fast but just about fishable. All fish (mostly around 12”) caught on heavily weighted nymphs in the slacker water. The weather was finally Spring like after four days of truly awful conditions.

Lovely sunny day but only a couple of brief hatches. Couldn’t capitalise using imitation march brown. Two lost fish on nymphs. Dead in afternoon.

Lovely day on lovely water. Fishing very difficult (read nothing caught) until a moderate March Brown hatch lasting an hour from about 2.00 pm. Lost 4 fish - two of them good - and caught 3. The fish were quite fussy as to which March brown imitations that would fool them - neither emergers, duns of jinglers were consistently taken. Nymph fishing before and after the hatch was unsuccessful.

Beautiful and varied beat, and sufficiently far up the Usk system to run reasonably low and clear even when the river is a bit high on the Brecon gauge.

Walked all the way to the bottom of the beat and immediately caught two good trout on orange tag tungsten nymphs just upstream of the bridge, one just over 2lb, the other just under. Fighting very fit! Proceeded upstream from there, and sporadic hatches of March Browns appeared on the some of shallowish flats around 1300-1430, but did not see a single rise to them despite watching patiently and carefully. Carried on nymphing and caught a further 10 inch trout. Tried spiders right in front of Penpont House at the upper end of the beat and had a pluck but no fish.
