Low river, lot of fly activity, felt I should have done better. Fish returned.

Low level of water, no trout caught.

6 Brown trout. River very low and clear. Lots of trout skulking but not taking (lots of big ones). Also in one pool, 20 plus trout in a shoal swimming in circles (have they been stocked or are they distressed?). 2 Cormorants working the water. Hard day. Method: tiny dry fly.
WUF Note: To our knowledge no stocking has taken place upstream of Brecon Weir so it is likely these fish were stressed by low water and avian predators.

River was the lowest I've ever seen it. A steady hatch of small olives and a few autumn duns. Fishing very tough. Hooked and lost 4 good fish! All on PT nymph. A thoroughly enjoyable day nonetheless.

Started off well on the lower part of beat, clear water making stealth important but fish responding well to heavy nymph on French leader in pocket water. Later in the afternoon the water clouded up. No rain, really sunny, fish now not responding. What caused the cloudy water?

I had hoped the extra water would improve the fishing but if the fish were feeding I couldn't find them. Did hook and play one lovely trout of about 15inches but ended up practicing a very quick catch and release at the net lip!
All turned a bit summery in the afternoon.

A great day on Saturday - fair bit of water running off the Beacons from Friday's downpour and water fairly brown in the morning before clearing around lunch. Very light intermittent drizzle in the afternoon which brought the fish on - missed a 1.5llb on the run before Vicarage pool and touched another four smaller fish or so. Took one 0.5lber. Beautiful setting and the wading was manageable even with a good current.

Reasonable conditions, river clear and a fair hatch. Located one or two rising fish in a few awkward locations but couldn't manoeuvre into position stealthily enough!
