No salmon alas. Cold and windy, with not much trout activity to be seen. However, 1 trout of 13'' caught on a Prince Nymph.

A lovely secluded beat with fantastic wildlife. Frustrating to fish but perseverance paid off. Hooked 4, landed 2.
Tons of fly life, plenty of mayflies and yellow mays and many upwings too. Caught on small humpty and olive quill emerger.

A quiet day, with only a smattering of desultory rises to something very small (I think). Waited to see if there would be an evening rise, which there wasn't much (and the rain was starting), but the day was redeemed by a lovely 19 inch, 2.5+ lb fish, which took a small dun at 8.15pm. She was in shallow water near-in and I've been trying to get her for several years...

very windy with few and sporadic rises. Fish rising were being very delicate with the exception of a handful of trout that smashed the dry fly clear of the water.

All fish caught in tails of pools. Best one 17”. Idyllic day on lovely beat. Two points for other passporters. Even by the standards of the Usk there is very little shade - which is worth remembering for the summer - and the llanover syndicate has the other bank so you may not be fishing virgin water.

Arrived 10.30 am and was greeted by a nasty upstream wind which made casting hard to say the least. There was rain in the air which gathered force by early afternoon. The river was in great condition and not too high or low. Good clarity. The sand martins were out but aside from a desultory smattering of olives, no hatch really got underway. However, my team of spiders worked well with the partridge and yellow accounting for all three fish. Plump and feisty spring trout all around the one pound mark. A little less wind would be welcome please!

Hard work. Virtually no fly, and only an occasional rising fish. Cool, stiff wind didn’t help!
