Great to be back in an area I know well from my younger days when I was a mountain bike guide in the hills and a competitor in the Man V Horse race. First time on this beat which was carrying a lot of water after heavy rain but most of the middle section was fishable with both nymphs and dries taking fish. Nothing big , up to 13", but all in good condition. When returning to the tail of a pool where I spotted a good sized Trout earlier I came across a young farmer lad and his girlfriend worming ( fishing that is ) the dilemma was do I ask them to leave, or knowing there is not much to do for youngsters in this area ignore it and and move on. This time I did the latter but the Colonel should be informed, We all had to start our fishing career somewhere.

Great new water. Arrived to meet the Colonel organising the repair of a gate. He has put in hard standing on the car parking
Had a fab day fishing, Al managed his best total so didn't want to leave in spite of the rain and the pubs being open.
We will be back to fish this beat again

Fished from 10-3....... 0.33 on the Abernant scale. I spent almost the whole time on the lower half of the beat which could be difficult to fish if the water was deeper and faster. 14 grayling between 8" - 13" and one small 7" trout , all on size 18 dries and most on a black gnat pattern. The middle slower section was very shallow and I couldn't make anything happen there at all. Fish were sporadically rising all morning but turned off around 2pm. I look forward to returning when the water is up a bit.

First time on this delightful Beat. Great fishing weather and good flow of water. Very easy access and wading through the beat. Fished from the water treatment plant to the river gauge which suited me fine being a lefly. All this area is double bank and easily fished in places without getting feet wet. Most of Grayling being between 6 and 10"with a couple at 14 to 16". Trout were all over 12'and a couple at 16" all of the trout fought like demons. The surprise was the chub that I have never caught on the fly, nothing big all around the 8"mark, but very welcome. Most fish on dries and few on ptn nymph. Great day and definitely a beat I will return too.

This beat has a substantial amount of fishable water (0.43 on the Abernant gauge) and is in three distinctive sections. The upper and lower parts, which I didn't have time to explore fully, are faster flowing, rockier and more overgrown. The middle part is more gentle-paced, open and easy going underfoot over gravel, with very easy access.
Most of the grayling were quite small (1/2lb) with 4 over a pound and the biggest 1 3/4lb (weighed in the net). The trout were in great condition and gave a good account of themselves. The biggest weighed in at 2 1/2lb and provided me with a spectacular display of aerobatics.
All fish were caught on a variety of dries (emergers) with the fish willing to come up to them all day and well into the evening. A great day on a great beat.
