River very low. Tried beaded nymphs in the deeper spots without success. A few risers tucked under the trees in the late afternoon. Fished upstream where access was tricky and probably impossible in normal flows if you couldn't cross the river. Nice spot.

Lovely day on one of favourite Irfon beats, with its open banks, pretty gravel runs and mysterious deep pools which 'can' hold specimen grayling. Just the one grayling though, but it was a beautiful fish of 17-inches. Plenty of out of season trout to 15", mostly taken on the dry due to the above average temperatures. I must admit, I'm beginning to get slightly concerned about the lack of grayling in the Irfon – particularly the smaller fish.

The Irfon at the Colnel's Water was very low - down to 4 inches in many parts making them unfishable. Just a few pockets remained to fish. A couple of small grayling were tempted. Otherwise, hard conditions given sunny heat and v. low river ...

Will return either late in the season or early next season ... when hopefully there is more water in the river. Lovely beat still.

Fished an evening ticket.
Which given the current low and clear conditions seemed like the best use of the day.
“On it’s bones” is probably a pretty fair description.
Had a few small trout, saw a couple of good risers but didn’t rise to the fly.
The larger fish seemed to be cruising around the pools occasionally taking spinners, and I wasn’t really feeling like playing the lottery waiting game.
A patient fisherman might do well.
A picturesque beat, but would certainly benefit from 6 inches of water on it.
Rain appears to be on the distant horizon so fingers crossed

Beautiful beat but difficult fishing. Huge hatch of flies around 2pm but no evidence of any interested fish and river seemed devoid of life until late afternoon when finally saw 2 fish rising on walk back to car. Managed to catch both, one about a pound and the other about a pound and a half.

The morning spent nymphing in various spots with no joy. Warmed up at lunchtime and plenty of fly life but no rises.
Changed to a speculative dry and landed a gorgeous feisty 17” grayling. What a start to the season on the most serene and varied of beats.

Nice height (40cm) and milder that recent days. A lovely, diverse and very long beat. Missed a few chances, including a frustating loss when the dropper caught on a lump of wood whilst playing a big grayling. I saw the fish shake out the barbless hook before I had to break off which was a relief. Only one fish brought to hand, a lovely fish that was around the 2lb mark by Guy. All the activity was from 12-2 as a hatch of chironomids developed (a fish even rose!) Either side of that you wouldn't believe there was a fish in the river.

All the action was in the steadier 3-5ft deep bits with klink and dink; czech nymphing the holes and faster water produced nothing.

Water low and clear sky to start. Most activity I’ve seen on this beat mainly by the Cledan and the cliffs. Numerous rises and knocks on dries but failed to connect. An evil downstream wind turned the air blue around lunchtime and failed to disappear for a few hours despite a power nap. Such a peaceful beat.

Nothing doing- water was low, very bright. Beautiful day out though.
