Struggled with high river conditions. No fish caught. Many thanks to John for the lift down to the beat and back up again in the ATV. Saved a long walk for Two very unfit over 50's ! Will visit this beat again in more favorable conditions.

Great day despite the weather and the mud. One fantastic barbel, probably a double. Three chub in the 1-2 pound range, one of whom was grabbed by a monster pike (probably 20lbs+) on the way in - the toothy one only let go just before the net.
The drive back up the hill even with AWD was a tad hairy. But another day on the Wye which adds at least a month to life expectancy.

Hard going today & John's posts & ropes were a Godsend once the rain started The second of the barbel was a PB for me at 9lbs + & fought like demon; At one point I had slipped into the river whilst picking up the landing net, this frightened the fish into another run which unbalanced me again, I dropped the landing net which sailed off downstream. I clambered back up the bank , grabbed a rod rest & managed to snag the net downstream. How the fish stayed on I don't know but went back with a tail flick that added insult to injury!
Good to meet up with John again

River had dropped significantly from the previous day giving better insight to the swims available. My pal had a barbel of 7lb.14oz from swim 11 on halibut pellet. I tried various swims and various baits but had to settle for 2 chub, biggest 3 1/2 lb on luncheon meat. We both lost a few decent fish where overhanging trees and roots caused a bit of a problem. A lovely fishery with some interesting features, I would go back there.

River a couple of meters up and very coloured. Majority of swims unfishable due to high water. Swim 7 was best option and I had a chub of 6lb 2oz and barbel of 11lb in the first couple of hours. My fishing pal had a few chub up to 2 1/2 lb from various swims downstream of peg 7. Majority of fish came to halibut pellet. We met John the bailiff, a friendly and helpful chap. Didn't see another soul all day, perfect solitude.

None of the swims were fishable on the day, due to high river levels.

First of all it was a big decision to drive the 4 hours up to the location, but we did and once there could not believe how mighty the Wye is when in near flood condition. The decision was taken, we had done the drive so had nowt to lose to fish. (except end tackle) After the rains, The river was up to 3.324 metre so basically un fishable.
Couldn't hold the bottom with any amount of weight, literally trees, whole sheep and everything else coming through.
only 2 flat swims were safely accessible. Safety being paramount in these conditions!! Ropes were provided at every peg. Nice touch.
We tried to fish but the snags were so bad we lost end tackle on every cast.
We Ran out of end tackle around 4pm so packed it in. But a lovely beat and a beautiful location. Will be back when the river is less fruity.
Hence to say, NO fish today!!
