Fishing:Trout (River)

Water high and coloured following heavy rain previous couple of days. Very limited safe wading as a consequence.

No fish this time, but a delightful beat and I will definitely return later in the season.

Caught by Jack Allen over from Canada with a broken wrist in a cast, a borrowed rod and only a pair of wellies: all from by Clettwr Brook. Proof that you don't need all the gear if you know what you are doing! Jack was taught to fish by his grandfather, Bob Browning, who bought Ty Newydd in 1983.

River was still fairly high and wading was difficult so I predominantly nymphed the pools close to the bank. I tried swinging a few spiders but to no avail, so ended up just spending the day indicator nymphing and successfully catching and releasing three small trout on an orange hotspot hares ear. I’ve just started tying my own flies so this was extremely satisfying. Lost a whopper on a yellow tag black sparkle body nymph- took me into the rapids and shook the hook out. All in all a lovely day - small hatch occurring but nothing rising. Will be back in the summer.

Don't think the fish have got used to this cold weather yet ,I certainly haven't!. Didn't find any shoaled up grayling anywhere just the odd fish her e and there. Water water was clear and a good hight. Most of the fish were small and all caught on nymphs. Grayling to 11" and the trout 12" ( one lost grayling )
