Only my second outing for a Salmon and my first on the Wye. The river was quite coloured on arrival and falling which made wading interesting, the weather was glorious but much cooler and feeling quite autumnal. No salmon seen or caught, just one suicidal trout taking my fly despite me doing a reasonable job of casting and covering a lot of water, I felt like I deserved a Salmon but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. A lovely day thank you.

Tenkara team hit the Wye.
Unfortunately, Fridays rain had coloured the water up, I guess the Wye catchment had more than we had.
We perservered with nymphs and had several takes and bumped a few fish. I lost a grayling and my old man lost a trout on our only two positive hookups.
We love the stretch and will definitely go back, secluded, peaceful and just an ideal place to while away a few hours. There is no padlock on the gate, as reported previously by another angler. But, all the stiles are in good repair now after reading previous reports.
When they say you need studs, they mean it. Do not fish this stretch with cleats or felt. Some easy wading, some challenging and some that is best only attempted by the very confident/experienced.
All in all, a fantastic stretch of water and can't wait to go back with better water clarity.
Now, if WUF could arrange winter grayling trotting or pike fishing...?

River low, only the odd fish showing generally around 50 yards away. Very warm as forecasted, did see a salmon moving 10lbs maybe, numerous times in the same pool. All fish caught returned safely.

1/2 pound brown trout caught on a duo rig, small hair and copper nymph in fast water just upstream from the hut. Returned alive. Coolish weather. Few risers. Fished up to the gravel pool with a nymphing setup with no luck.

Lovely afternoon. Instructions on fining the parking space were spot on!

Lost more than I caught but a lovely spot and a thoroughly enjoyable day. Marred only by the inflatable canoe contingent

In most respects, I had a terrific day. The water level was good and it was clear, it was warm but not too warm, and there were flies emerging in patches. Without wishing to seem to brag, I lost count of all the trout I caught. I think it was about 30, up to 1lb, and, to my surprise, a 4lb chubb, which took a salmon fly!

The area in which it was a dire day was in that there was not sign of salmon of any kind. There should be par and smolts now, and after catching 30 trout, I had thought there would be SOME salmon amongst them, but no,

Well, I thought today would never arrive! It's possible to fish again! The water was lower than I'd hoped but still fishable. I hooked some trout and had a good fight with one. Another fish took very strongly and ripped the line out of my hand. Dare I suggest it might have been a salmon...?!?

After disasters in the past, I now bring my spare salmon rod, just in case..... and I broke my reel! I went to tighten the rings and shove it in a bit as t was loose and the spurs snapped....

Some retail therapy later and all is sorted, but a lost day really.
