Perfect conditions on the water but no salmon seen or caught - sadly I saw way more Goosanders (5) which continue to be a eco-system management issue along with many other factors contributing to the decline of this river. So sad to see...
On a positive note the trout and Grayling were active all day, nibbling away at any variant of salmon fly I chose to present.

Great beat. You can find everything what you want on this beat, fast runs , medium speed water and great dry fly water. I love it. Definitely come back there. Tight lines ????

The forecast of nigh perfect overhead conditions, given the first day with no wind for a week, tempted me to fish this beat again. Not the cleverest move, as the river was pushing through, running at 1’ 5” on the WUF gauge (1.15m on NRW’s) and was still carrying enough colour to make wading potentially hazardous. I should have known better, having fished here for so many years! Unsurprisingly, the usually highly productive Ciliau Run and Bachawy Pool were well out of bounds. I fished first at the Clettwr and then in other accessible marginal water on the way back down. A trout and some rising grayling of 10 - 14” were caught early doors on a small HE emerger and HE Ducks Dun, the other fish coming later to a Red Tag spider, pink shrimp and Duracell jig. Some midge and pale watery spinners on the wing - good news for potential surface activity once the tide goes out over the next week or so. Headed off mid-afternoon to catch some more trout and grayling on GAS’s water on the now, very low Llynfi, on the way home. All things considered, not a bad day, but need to get my act together next time!

About 3.5 hours on a wet Sunday afternoon. Pink tag on the point fly, Black Pennell and Partridge and Yellow on droppers. Grayling seemed partial to the Partridge and Yellow, oddly. They usually take pink. Trout unfussy. Sometimes the fishing gods are kind. Everything back bar one for supper.

I started the day of fishing spiders and then moved on to euro nymphing. As with most rivers at this time of year it was quite low but there were plenty of fish to be caught in the faster deeper runs. Had a great morning fishing in gorgeous countryside, I’ll definitely be returning
