Very sparse olive hatches. Lots of takes to flies fished sub surface though, most of which I missed.
Grouse and Partridge hackled wets most effective.
No interest whatsoever in a variety of nymphs that were offered. They closed shop shortly after 3.00 as usual.

Just fished a window in the weather before finishing with numb fingers in heavy rain. Mainly guided my nephew and glad we stuck it out as we found a lot of busy trout to 14”which were taking sub surface. Mostly caught on emergers and Usk nailers. At least the same number missed. For fish that have recently spawned they were in very good condition. Strangely, we didn’t see one dun all session.

4 x trout 10-15 inches, spiders. Very bright sun and a big temperature swing this morning, from frost to double figures; river at 1ft 4 inches. I only had the morning, so had to leave at 1 o'clock, by which time the first few large dark olives were beginning to show. Bad timing!

7 x trout 10-14 inches, spiders and Deer Hair Emerger during March brown and olive hatches. However, wading very difficult and next to impossible by 3 o'clock as level rose steadily into flood on a rainy day.

Quiet session. All fish were small and lean, caught on an Usk Nailer or PTN. There was a sparse hatch of olives with a few March Browns at 1.30 ish, but the trout didn’t seem interested.Only saw one fish rise all day.
