Two of us fished Glan-yr-Afon from about 12.45 to 18.00. Great to be back on this stunning stretch of the Usk, despite a very challenging breeze all afternoon and the odd hail shower! Connected with but lost three decent fish, all on dries - as per previous reports, the most effective flies were March Brown and Large Dark Olive. The one fish actually caught fell to the old faithful Partridge and Orange, fished through the tail of a riffle on the near side midway along the beat. Only had thigh waders and therefore couldn't reach some of the water on the far side that looked tempting. Fingers crossed for less wind next time!

Lovely stretch of river. Water low but plenty enough for the purpose. Downstream wind so mostly wet fly. Black Pennell took the majority. All small - in fact, suspiciously similar in size. Wondered whether it may have been the same fish five more times. Anyway, he's hopefully going to get older and wiser and much, much bigger.

After fishing this beat on the Thursday before and catching 14 trout to 14" I wanted to have another go for some of the larger fish I had spotted. With a bright sunny sky and lower water I knew It was not going to be easy. By getting into position late morning near the head of one of the larger pools I kept still and let the fish start feeding on the steady trickle of LDO's and March Browns. A para Adams and a black tung bead PTN fished duo took some good fish, the best being a very fat 17" with a couple of solid fish lost. Later on I used long leader nymphs to have some good sport taking fish from the faster runs along the far bank. With such fine weather a quick swim finished the day off perfectly. All fish returned.

Great day but no luck. Some surfacing in earlier afternoon. One small fish hooked but got away!

Lovely sunny day and a beautiful beat with some nice pools and riffles, and some tricky wading in places! Tough but enjoyable day's fishing, lots of fly life about but nothing rising, two fish both taken on a small hare's ear and another lost to the same. Looking forward to having another go soon!

Sunny but cold blustery wind. Hooked and lost one nice fish at about 11 on a heavy nymph. Few fish rising between two and 3pm, rose a couple but failed to hook on a klink.
Can't have been that cold, as somebody was swimming in the next pool up from me.

Most activity in the morning, March Browns and Olives coming off sporadically as were Grannom. First fish in the tail of streamy run to dry fly, tups, the next four to weighted nymphs in the faster water. Last fish fell to a black spider on the dropper in the edge of a fast stretch under the trees of far bank.

River quite low but perfectly fishable. Bright sunny day with very little wind. Had a 12" brown first cast on a march brown dry from the bridge pool. Two more about the same size quickly followed - these two took a small olive nymph, then lost a larger one just upstream. All quiet for the next couple of hours - a few march browns hatching here and there and some grannoms too. Later on had two more from the flats on copper head pheasant tail. Great day. Lovely beat.
