Not quite to plan. Tried to fish "The Baskets"but found an extensive jungle of 12Ft high himalayan balsam. Fought my way to the water and had to wade deep to make a decent cast. Nothing moving.Obliged to retrace my steps in order to get out and then gave another impersonation of a scene from "The African Queen" in order to reach open ground. And it got worse!
Moving to the tail of the long pool I waded out onto a 10" deep glide over large pebbles and, whilst flicking a fly into a smaller pool, fell in, drowned my phone and snapped 7" off the top section of my Hardy fly rod! Oh joy unconfined.
I've fly fished for many years, love the Tywi and though a fishless trip is not a novel experience I would hope that my impression of an inebriated cormorant will be!

My second time here, this time 10 brownies swinging wet flies. Some very deep wading and strong currents, quite a bit I wasn’t able to fish this time. Looking forward to returning!

Bit of a recce for potential seatrout night fishing .
Good to see fish are moving up as I disturbed a 5-6 Lb fish out in the open in a temporary lie in only 1ft of water.
3 trout from the same place in the same pool in 3 casts !

What started out as a reasonably promising night, with a couple of sewin heard jumping in the dark water beneath overhanging trees, ended in fairly disappointing fashion. Midnight agricultural work on the opposite bank under floodlights that burned like a thousand moons repeatedly illuminated the pool, and was also very loud so as to be generally disruptive to my zen vibes. Why not move to a different pool? Well, that's easier said than done on the upper water as there is no bankside path and a maze of barbed wire enclosures that are difficult enough to navigate in daylight. I could have sacrificed what was left of my night vision and driven to a different spot but by the time I was back at the car it was past 1am and raining, so I gave it up to bad luck. The right pool perhaps, but the wrong night.

A fantastic morning fishing on the Tywi with my son. Llandeilo water are starting to show life again like I used to know it when I was a kid.

We were lucky enough to catch several brown trout from tiny ones right up to a cracking two pounder. We also got in to a beautiful sewin again this was about two pounds. This looked like a freshly run fish, really shiny silver straight up from the sea.

It was a couple of days after we had had some rain and the river had dropped back to it normal 0.90 - 1.0 level maybe with still a slight light brown colour to the water. The weather was calm and mild around 15 degrees with a slight mist coming and going over the fields until around 7am where the morning sun began to brake through.

We were only using one rod my 10ft #5 with a 12ft leader. Teaching my son (10) to fly fish with such a beautiful rod is a great joy especially getting into a decent fish or two and him experiencing the joys of the fight and landing a fish on the fly. Almost all the trout we caught were on a size 15 nymph (we call it the Irfon nymph) and the sewin was caught on a size 12 Black Pennell.
