First time to this beat. The top 200 yards are delightful. Streamy with seams and a deeper channel on the far side, good access and open casting. However, this is really the only fishable section, the rest being high banks above the outside of a long bend. Which makes an already short beat even shorter. The wind of yesterday had largely dropped which was a relief and it was dry with cloud and sun. Even when a mixed hatch started at 12.30 it was not heavy and was quickly over. Mainly small sedges, with a few small olives a couple of yellow mays and some midges. I tried everything: tiny dries, olives, emergers, nymphs, spiders and even streamers. Nothing. No rises, no takes, nothing. Hey ho. A lovely few hours on the Usk though.

Fished for a few hours around midday. Decent hatch, but intermittent risers. Managed one fish of around 12oz before the wind really picked up.

Bright day, but still a quite cold. River running, with just a hint of colour. Two on the nymph, PTN it olive, under a Klink. One on the dry (deer hair emerger) at 1240. A very brief hatch, of a few March Brown, but nothing at all prolific.

The beat is very tough to fish for most of the length, being an outside bend. But the top 200m is excellent dry fly and nymphing water.

Short evening session. No salmon caught or seen. However, very good trout fishing between 8.30pm and 10pm. Caught 3 trout on dries and lost several more. A nice stretch of the river here, recommended.

Very nice stretch of the river! Could do with some rain as the river was very low, lots of hatches from about 11:00-15:00 when the sun came out, but not many fish rising to feast on them. I had two small trout on the dry and missed a third
