What I thought was a perfect day on the water turned out to be a blank. I couldn't enjoy the scenery either as the whole day was spent in fog! That's Wales!

About the roughest day I have ever been out fishing on, so one 12" grayling and an out of season brown trout shaken off was a good result considering. The river was high, slightly coloured and rising and I left at 2-30 feeling battered enough by the wind. First visit to this beat, which gave me the impression it would be perfect in slightly lower water.

First time fishing Cildu- all grayling good average stamp for size of river. Half pound to pound and a quarter fish. Water temperature 9 degrees, slightly above temperature compared to other rivers fished recently in the last two weeks. French leader method of choice. Most pools able to cover relatively easily. Flies working were purple bodied copper head cdc thoroax nymph size 18 and 3mm red tag on point. All fish taken in slow deeper water. Only out of season trout lying in the runs. Main concentration of fishing in slow glides. Would suggest duo set up would work well.

High winds, high water and high banks , not best for trotting. Did not fish but a quick recce for next season.

Did not fish, river flooded and very dirty. Had a walk along part of the beat ( in the pouring rain and 30mph wind ) it looks very nice and in parts much bigger than i expected, but I have to say the parking is not good in these conditions, do not attempt to go onto the field unless you have turned up on a tractor !

Tough start to the day, cold and apart from an oss trout couldn’t find anything on the nymph. The wind picked up making line control fishing ‘euro’ style trickier so switched over to the duo... partly influenced by being able to cast a bit further and not spend so much time in cold deep water. Nice grayling pushing 2lb to the dry. A bit of a trickle of sedges and olives knocking about so took the nymph of and went solely on dry... a further 4 Grayling followed. Nice day out on a cracking beat.

The water was high, flowing fast and a bit murky and I only arrived at 2.45 but in the hour and a half I fished, I caught two nice grayling on a gold head nymph. Very happy for a first cast on the Wye.

River was clear but fast, making wading difficult. Still managed 5 Grayling - 3x 1lb+, 2x smaller, all great fun!
