Thoroughly enjoyed our session on this beautiful beat, but only hooked one which fought like mad and threw the hook before I could net it. Will be back - keen to get to know how to match whatever hatch is going on....

Targeted salmon most of the day as water level and salmon pools looked ideal should there have been any fish around. Overcast conditions with some showers. Switch rod used. Very good beat despite no fish on this occasion.

2 x 2lb brown trout caught during March Brown hatch at lunchtime on the Little Stream beat. Used MB pattern specifically to target. Water clarity good, falling river levels after flood conditions. Gusting wind hampered efforts.

What a day to start the season! Glorious sunshine although there was a cold breeze and the river was cold too. Sporadic hatches of olives and sedges throughout the day and the occasional March brown …. Most activity from the fish around midday. 4 beauties to hand between us 13 to 20 inches on grey parachute and ginger jingler. Wonderful to be back in the river, and in the fields the wild flowers were blooming and the first lambs arriving

Fished the top end of the estate. Great stretch of water and wading wasn’t too tricky.
Managed to get a take on a caddis nymph (will attach picture of it) but he managed to wriggle off.
Will definitely be back next season.

Little sign of fly activity or rising fish. Water level was low but clarity pretty good.
The two small trout caught were returned.
There was another group fishing the beats which was unexpected so we did not fish our favoured sections.

Only had a few hours fishing, had to resort to nymphing as there was no hatch and no rising fish to target with a dry fly. Harry did say evening was the best time, sadly we had to leave at 3pm to get back to Sussex. Lovely river, would happily fish there again.
