This was our first visit to Upper Breinton. Arriving at the gate into the field we found that the combination padlock was broken and hanging loose. The gate was partly secured together with some string and elasticated rope.

The drive down to the river was straightforward and we could park at the rivers edge. This is a small beat with only 6 or 7 fishable swims but enough choice for the two of us.

My fishing buddy John fished from a nice comfortable swim in the first field and I chose the first swim just into the small wooded area. Mine was a lovely looking swim which could have been so much easier to fish with a bit of maintenance of cutting back branches both above me, to aid casting, and also to remove benches growing out of the bank in front of me.

All the fish we caught came early into late afternoon, Barbel up to 8lb and the best Chub was 4lb, all fish coming to meat.

Lovely beat but only the very upstream ones are easy to get too.

Unfortunately due to one of our party slipping and hurt knee, gave it a miss today and tomorrow.

Lovely beat but like most rivers the Wye is in need of some rain. Very low and clear. The banks are a bit dodgy , the ones at the upstream end are probably the safest. The lock on the gate was broken. When we left half the gate had fallen over and the sheep were loose in the road. Alyson informed.

3 chub biggest 3 1/2 lb.. 2 barbel biggest 6lb 8oz. Clear water.. Gate lock broken when I arrived..

The river was low when we arrived but increased by 2 to 3ft within 2 hrs (at about 9am). Fished feeder about 1/4 of the way out.

Middle swims 3/4 away across feeder pellet and boilies. Peregrine falcon in tree on far bank.

Pellet and ground bait feeder, boilies or pellet as bait.
