Visited the beat the previous (overcast) evening and got tips from helpful fella fishing ????. However my day’s fishing was one of blazing sunshine, sunburn and serious overheating! Shouldn’t complain! A few of the chub were over 5lbs, one probably nudged 6lbs, right down to much smaller fish but the barbel weren’t having it and I had to leave before the sun came off the river and barbel prospects may have improved. I also massively underestimated the weight needed to get down, static and safely holding in the deeper far bank areas where the fish seemed to be holding. Newbies note, when your rig stops bouncing along the bottom and seems to hold, you are probably snagged. This is very civilised fishing, fabulous access in dry weather and picnic tables. I wouldn’t risk driving my van down to the bottom in any sort of wet weather though. A somewhat casual day….

A slow morning, river was slightly up and coloured as seems usual these days. Fishing picked up in the afternoon/evening after heavy baiting. Switching between krill dumbells and 8mm robin reds on a straight lead with long hooklength kept the bites coming. Very picturesque beat if a bit limited.

As always only fished the afternoon. Short section, good access and the picnic tables are a great touch

River started to drop and clear throughout the day, started to get a few bites towards the end of the day. Quite a short beat so a little limited if the fishing is hard. I’m sure in the right conditions it would be a great one day location. Reachable by car in dry conditions but very slippery when wet, 4x4s only. We parked at the top and walked down.. great decision!!

Do not, I repeat Do not attempt to drive down the track to the fishery. Even though the ground felt hard a little rain in the day made it impossible for the car to climb back up the hill. I was another victim for the tractor pull. Luckily I found a house about a 1/4 mile away that had a tractor to rescue my car. I would advise anyone fishing this beat to park just inside the gate and travel light as it’s a fair walk to the fishery. Swims are cut in but very dangerous getting up and down the bank in wet conditions, anglers will need to bring a ground spike and rope.
Fishing Passport Note : The advice for access is mentioned on the web page... "Vehicle access permitted right down to the river bank. No 4x4 necessary but the grass can get long and after rain, vehicle access to the river bank is not guaranteed. Please consider rain forecast before deciding to park riverside and use your own judgement. If you have to park at the entrance to the fishery there is an approx. 400m walk to the river".

Perfect conditions. Slightly risen river, a little colour, humid to cool weather, a little drizzle, but sunshine too. Banks a little slippery, rope proved handy.
Barbel (from 3 to 8lb) and Chub (several big fish around the 6lb mark) all falling to pellets (varied) on feeder and ledger.
Trotted corn produced some lovely Dace, Chub to 2lb and a superb one and a half pound trout.
Two Perch (one 2lb+) fell to Stret Pegged corn, supplemented with small pellets.
A truly memorable day. The river at its finest. Some blobs of foam coming through throughout day. Not sure this was sinister.
