Was luckly with the water levels (.8 at Cilmery) – a little higher than I’d have liked, but it was more than fishable. Mostly out of season trout to nymphs, but when the sun broke through the heavy rain clouds, a few fish started rising and a beatiful 17.5” grayling put a huge smile on my face, having taken my tiny traditional grayling dry fly. A beatiful stretch of water, the grayling might be few and far between, but if you catch one, it’s usually a specimen.

Didn't manage to start fishing until after mid day ,river was completely different from 2 weeks ago then 0.895 at Cilmery today 0.475. fished for maybe 1.5 hrs without a nibble so change to a pink headed pheasant tail within 3 casts got a small grayling with didn't make the net then hooked on to a good size grayling 17" plus (which did make the net) no more than 3 casts after first had got off. Both where in a deeper gully. left lunch in the car but didn't forgot the can of "Veltins" out of date lager( what a surprise)which i consumed on the river bank. fished until 2.45pm not another bite. Back at the car ate my last of the season tomatoes with Cheddar and half a French stick. Went home feeling very pleased with myself.
I am sure a better angler would have caught more , a beautiful stretch of river will be back.

River seemed too high, coloured and rising. Fished for an hour but very little encouragement. One fish hooked and lost euro nymphing.

Arrived 11.30 got going around mid day .river running fast(.0.895 level at Cilmery) and low visibility so expected a tough day.
Proved right for me with not a bit .A W managed a couple of bits and did catch a small grayling tight to the bank
A great stretch of river both agreed to come back when river has dropped.
Highlight of the day, A W has moved from away Wallers Gala pie to a Tesco Polish sausage !!!
Low point, this new speed limit in Wales.

River was looking good at the start. Heavy rain at intervals made it a bit difficult in places. All fish caught with black gnat on 14 hook. 2 trout about 9" and one around 11". Grayling, 10"or so.

Overnight rain meant that the water was just too muddy - had a go but brightest fly only visible for 3 inches. 130 mile round trip wasted.

First time on this beat. Easy parking, easy wading and lots of varied and interesting water to fish. Slow start but as the temperature rose so did the fish. 8 wbt caught, 5 of which over 14", the best around 18". Great day, great beat will definitely return.

One small brown trout caught on a size 16 March brown, delightful beat, tricky to find but worth the effort.

This is a lovely beat in a beautiful setting in the heart of rural mid-Wales. There were three of us fishing the beat but it was hard going in the very low and clear water conditions. We have had a very dry February. We only managed to catch 8 grayling and they were small with the biggest fish only weighing about 12oz. Four were taken trotting red maggots in the morning and four were taken on the fly in the afternoon (3 on a size 14 Usk Nailer and 1 on a size 16 Griffith's Gnat). There was a brief and sparse hatch of large dark olives in the early afternoon but the fish were not actively rising to them. We also caught quite a few out-of-season brown trout. The birdlife was good too; so ideal for any angler who is also a keen ornithologist.
