2nd time on this beat, looks great but both times have been unable to work out where to fish and what methods are working. Tried the float no bites, went on the feeder some bites from small fish could not hook them. Last resort ground bait and pellet feeder, one bite and biggest ever barbel close to 10lb,

Great fish but just cannot get to grips with this beat.

The river was around 1.3 meters above normal level but not to coloured. 1 Barbel caught , not weighed but around 8lb. All Chub caught were small around 1lb. Dace were plentiful and could have been caught in large numbers on stick float tactics if so desired. Conditions were very wet but still a nice day to be out on the river.

1 Barbel at 5 1/2 lb off the pylon run mid morning. We fished the entire length of this usually productive section but only managed the 1.

A sunny Autumn day at this stunning beat. The river was low and clear and sport was slow but we managed two good barbel, the largest 9.5 lbs and a 4lb chub and many small dace on maggots. Very good access to the river, the best we have seen on several WUF beats. Fish caught on meat or maggots on feeders with the dace being on trotted float.

Another lovely day on the Wye. Fished from on of the middle Croys, under the willow trees on the far bank rolling luncheon meat. Only able to fish for a few hours around lunchtime, but still managed to catch five beautifully conditioned Chub between 2-3lbs. As on my previous day, a large number of canoeists passed by. Latterly, some youngsters arrived to jump of the Croys and allow the current to take them downstream. They were asked to move further downstream, even though they wanted to jump in by the Hut ! They did so begrudgingly !

Enjoyed a terrific day, although plagued by canoeists, paddleboarders and kayakers (going upstream !). However, fishing was tough at the Luggs mouth end, with just one lovely condition Chub of around 4lb. Persevered, rolling luncheon meat without any further bites. Moved up to the Hut from mid-afternoon and fished same tactics with instant reward. Action was hectic, with nine further Chub ranging from 1.5 to 3lbs all on rolling meat until dusk. Sadly, for all my efforts a Wye Barbel eluded me this time. Toward dusk two poachers arrived downstream and I requested them to leave, which they did in good grace. One spoke in a very broad Herefordshire accent, both were drinking what looked like cans of lager. They had walked up from the Luggs Mouth end and were spinning from the Croys. They left in the direction they came.
