Was very slow for the first few hours with only c. 2-3 feet visibility following the recent rain, nothing rising at all but managed to get three on nymphs with bright colours; then from late afternoon onward it started to clear, there were some sparse mayfly and midge hatches and caught four more to 14" on dries - small olive and black gnat patterns. Very beautiful, wild beat but the wading is tricky in places with large round boulders, bedrock sections and some big changes in depth - was very glad I had studded felt soles on even a few feet from the bank in many places, I would definitely recommend those and a wading staff would be a good idea too! The bankside path was also tricky along the western half - at least four trees had fallen across the old path, and part of the steep hillside has had a landslide removing one section of path entirely. I did manage to fish all of it to the end but slow and difficult going there. That section is worth it though if you can scramble - as the guide sheet said some nice nymphing water amongst the pockets and fast runs, the first three on nymph all came there. I would also recommend a through-action bamboo or fibreglass rod as in many spots you have tall trees immediately behind you - roll casts were essential in many swims, with a fast carbon rod I would never have made the distance to half the fish. Some lovely widlife around - sandpiper nesting on the far bank I think and very busy, song thrush singing above me much of the day, and lots of other bird activity including kingfisher, heron, and grey wagtails and chaffinch darting out to snap up the odd mayfly mid-air! I loved the wild nature, seclusion and challenge of this beat, thanks for a wonderful day out and I hope to return soon!

Cloudy at start of day, really lovely conditions. Wading is difficult even with the low water. 3 caught on nymphs
I think I fished half the beat before the rain came down and drove me home

Great fishing on a beautiful beat. Decent hatches all day, with sporadic rises - most action between 1 and 3pm. Olive emergers and duns did most of the hard work. Very hard wading and access also very difficult, especially at the top end. But worth the scrambling for some superb fish from superlative water.

Fished the bottom of the beat below the fishing hut. There was enough to keep us busy all day, in between the rain, hale and strong protracted gusts of wind. Luckily the estate owner rang me while I was on the way and suggested we park on the bank; much appreciated. At about 1.00, the ducks started lining up ready for the March browns. We enjoyed about half an hour of being surrounded by rising fish, but couldn't compete with the natural flies. WH then switched to euro and fished up the seam by the fast water below the hut. Landed 2 nice fish, had 3 more takes. Earlier I had tried making my way along the bank up river- tough going, so moved back down after a bit of a stumble. Only one of us fell in and it wasn't me! It would be interesting to see what access is like from the top parking. Maybe next time....Alyson at WUF is updating the map to show this is right bank only.

Beautiful day and a lovely stretch of river. There were both LDOs and March Browns coming off, but no fish rising. Strange.
I managed to rise 3 fish and catch one -- an immaculate wild brown trout of ~ 1lb.
I looked upstream and it looked like tricky wading (at this height of water) so I just recce's it for future visits.

An early start on the streamy water with barbless nymphs brought plenty of takes and spirited battles. We lost most of the fish, but in the end my little boy landed a beautiful Usk Brown Trout. You can imagine the smile on his face. Many thanks to Fishing Passport for a wonderful week of fishing!
