Quite a decent rise all day, but the fish were being very picky, quite often spitting out (and thus missing) the fly. Got 2 on a Jingler (14) late on, but the consensus seemed to be that a very small emerger or BWO (eg. size 18 Klinkhamer) was the best bet.

A memorable first visit to this wonderful beat. Insects hatched and fish rose all day. Best fish were 17β, 16βand 4@15β with most of the rest 12-14β. All on dry fly and nearly all targeting rising fish.

Perfect fishing conditions, so no excuses. A lively hour around lunch time saw many decent sized fish rising, most of them too crafty for me, but lots of fun. Mainly stuck to the Ashford Bend. Wonderfully peaceful, plenty of bird life and a delight to be on the river.

Such a beautiful beat but tough today. Very clear and very bright. Pretty much every fish rising was a oncer. But as ever a joy to be there.

Oddly, little in the way of hatch or rise. Two modest fish (up to 12") on PTN. Could the cold water presumably being released from very full reservoirs following such a wet Jan-Feb be inhibiting the expected olives hatch? Seemed to be more spinners than duns (though few of either). The river is still quite high following 3 weeks now with no rain, and little flow in the brooks. (I saw there were plenty of minnows about, some quite big, which could possibly be imitated by streamers)
