Generally cloudy. Occasional sun and rain.
No actual hatches of note and relatively few rises but the fish rose quite well to size 16 dry flies on a very long leader.

Lots of activity. Saw 9 fish jump out of the water, 7 rises and quite a few fish swim around and passed me. Caught two browns..the first one a very decent size and fight..the second slightly smaller but still great. Got half way through day and stopped due to being very hot and too sunny. Cracking day though!

Started break of dawn to take advantage of cooler water (17° 6am, 18° 11am nearly 19° when finished at 1pm). Lost 4 fish(!) due to bad technique and one bad knot….
Euro nymphing fast riffles at heads of pools, some fish rising in slower glassy sections but water so low and clear they seem easily spooked. Fish are still very lively in these oxygenated areas and go bonkers in the low water (at least that’s my excuse for losing them).

It was my first time on this beat, encouraged by earlier reports. But, there was not much going on and no fish were caught. Occasionally there was a splashy jumping rise but mostly there was nothing. I did not help my chances by only being able to fish from 2pm to 5pm and in the warm sun in July. I parked in the top-most parking spot and explored from there. There are some nice faster runs and some good flats. I think I might explore elsewhere on this beat much earlier or later in the season. I am always very appreciative of the quality of the fishing offered by WUF but I would gently suggest that the map/directions document for this beat is not up to the usual high standards WUF. It is very sparse in its guidance, especially for such a long beat. There are pools named on the map but no actual reference to what they are (presumably salmon pools but who knows?) but more than that I think the map is crucially missing the public footpaths which are a crucial part of navigating this beat, especially for the first time. Might I suggest a slightly fuller guide and map please?
Fishing Passport Note : Thank you for the feedback on the map. We will look at it and see where it can be improved.
