River had come up 3ft overnight but was dropping as the day went on,this made for difficult fishing conditions. Couldn't get to the bend as it was over the bank. Fished on the high bank between the cross. Hard work but enjoyable.

Cool start with mostly clear skies, warmed up during the day with later cloud cover. River about a foot up with a tinge of colour. SM fished the chub area down the bottom and caught all day on meat over pellet on the float for 57 chub to 4lb and a near 5lb barbel for a best ever chub day. Weirdly given those numbers not as many chub down there as a month ago presumably due to the extra flow displacing them. The other pair of us fished a variety of swims across the beat looking for barbel to no avail and had 20 chub between us on GB feeders. Where have all the barbel gone as that's 2 trips in a row with decent barbel conditions and very few fish. Still a lovely day with only occasional polite canoes.

Upon arrival the river had risen a further foot overnight and it was not possible to reach the top of the island swims, so we fished from swims further back. Two barbel 6lb & 7lb were landed and a third good fish slipped the hook at the net after two powerful runs. 30 chub were caught several over 4lb and a couple just shy of 5lb. All fish fell to luncheon meat, pellets not proving effective. During the our time on the bank the river dropped 6-8 inches.

The river was high for the time of year and fishing at the end of the island the current was quite strong.
The swim is still full of chub and I wasn’t able to get through to the barbel and packed up early as the rain was coming down quite hard

warm mostly overcast day, river coloured, 2 foot up from the weekend and 16 degrees. Lovely barbel conditions but this is the best chub stretch on the list and not many barbel have come out this season as testified by our chat with Colin the bailiff.
The chub swims down the bottom were a little too pacey to fish the float effectively (for me at any rate) so a few on the feeder down there before moving back up, so we ended up catching throughout the length of the beat. GB feeder and boillies or small combination baits best. All chub between 2 and 3, the 3 barbel (one each) were 1, 3 and 5. So a lovely day but not the best beat we could have fished under the conditions - we fished the swims recommended by Colin for the barbel but again only Chub.
