Weather was very mild for this time of year, with very little wind. We started on float and persevered until 1pm, the only bite was a trout that acrobatically threw the hook.

Then my fishing partner tried a maggot feeder with instant success, from then on it was pretty regular bites from the chub.

I did try the float over the fish again to see if I could tempt them but they, didn't seem interested in a moving bait.

The surprise barbel came just as the sun hit the horizon.

River running about a metre high, showers throughout the day.

This beat has a good choice of swim, and we worked our way from the bottom end back up towards the boat.

Found some slacks but did struggle for bites. No barbel for us today. All chub came on feeder and luncheon meat.

We'll definitely make a point of coming back here next Summer. It does look like this beat is much better maintained than some, with good access to more swims than some.

Booked to get on here in the summer primarily due to the massive head of good chub (booked way back in Nov 2021) only for it to fall during the low oxygen closure. This was the next available for more than one person. Was looking great up to Tuesday evening but came up a metre overnight - good on other WUF waters but apart from the bottom swims (the island one we couldn't get to) it's a bit straight when really high. Steve in the bottom swim had 3 barbel 4 to 6lb. Paul had a 4lb chub halfway down the straight and I managed to snare a late barbel of 6lb by the boat. Groundbait feeders and an assortment of hookbaits. The heavens opened at 1400 to leave us drenched with one of the worst drives I've ever had to get home. We will do it all again though...
