Rained all day, v.wet, v.muddy. A consequence of fishing through a prolonged downpour is a reluctance to try different swims or methods; perhaps that was my mistake. Sat it outfor a while. Anything but today! Did take a roaming rod and a bag of bait to squelch and slither my way to the island pegs, which looked a tad more inviting but in truth produced no more action than original choice. Just a smattering of chub at widely-spaced intervals, with not a sniff of a barbel. Disappointing start to a two-day trip.

First time on the beat, struggled to find fish in the morning. Moved a few times then we located a few fish. We had 7 barbel between us, 1 chub, 1 salmon par and 1 dace. The river was low and clear. We will be back and thanks for the Wye and Usk Foundation for their information on the stretch.

Arrived at about 11 and the angler already fishing had caught 1 barbel and lost another. The river had cleared a bit since Tuesday. Fished with pellet and meat for a couple of hours with hardly a twitch so switched to maggot feeder and the bites started coming. Finished with 5 chub 1 trout and a dace. A nice stretch to fish with nicely mown walkways. Thanks wuf.

Very well maintained beat thanks in no doubt to the very helpfull and understanding Colin. River looked in good condition, at long last, and after taking further advice (Colin) had not a bad day with the barbel and chub taking pellet and meat. Well done W&U exellent service. Who needs Caradoc when Holme Lacey is available at nearly half the £.

On a pretty wet day, our roving options were limited so we fishing under our brollies from the lower croys and had a reasonable catch under the circumstances. It looked like the much needed rain had arrived!

Back on Holme Lacey for a second day and pleasantly surprised to find a bit more flow than yesterday. There must have been a bit of rain on the hills which arrived here late morning. Fished the same areas as the day before, this time catching 8 barbel up to 8lb and 14 big chub, all of which again were over 4lb. It was chub fishing like I've never experienced before in terms of average size. So ended two marvelous days on the mighty Wye fishing a lovely beat beautifully kept by Colin. A big thanks to him and the Wye and usk Foundation, keep up the great work.

The river was really low and not too much flow to it although a tad more than the previous day. I was really impressed by this beat and you can tell it is well looked after as there were numerous/accessable swims to fish from which is not always the case on the wye. Colin the ghille was very friendly and a good bloke. At the time I was struggling with only one chub to show for my efforts but with his advice I ended up with 5 barbel and 1 chub. I will definitely be going back to this beat.

Arrived in morning to find the river the lowest I've ever seen it in the three years I've been traveling down here. Fished a few swims from the middle, straight down to the island and managed to catch from all of them resulting in 7 barbel up to about 7lb and 7 chub all of which were over 4lb with a best of 4lbs 14oz, all caught on pellet or boillie. It really did pay to chop and change in the clear water as they seemed to spook easily. But all in all a great day with the weather playing its part and as a bonus, Colin turned up for a chat which is always a pleasure.

My mate had never caught a barbel before so when I saw a low clear river I feared the worst, especially with bright sunshine. When, after a change of swims he landed his first barbel of just under 7lb we were both very happy. Thanks as always to the Foundation.
