Hooked a good salmon on third cast (Flying C) but lost it (2nd in 2 visits). Unfortunately had to leave early.

Slight colour but good level. Very cold upstream wind. Started at top end with Devons and Flying C. Worked my way downstream but only joy was a nice 1lb brownie on a Flying C. Put a fly through the bottom part of the beat (lovely fly run but probably better in warmer times). On return to the hut the only other angler on the beat had just returned a cracking ''thirty''. Perhaps it will be my turn next time.

Blank. First time I have fished Caradoc, and the owner and gillie Jerry were both extremely helpful. I found a deep upper section, casting from cribs and generally suitable for spinning (which I duly did), but some interesting fly water at the bottom end, with wading about as easy as it gets. You can drive the whole section. A day of sunshine and storms, and a whole succession of single and double rainbows, one of which distinctly ended in the river. No, it didn't mark the location of a silver springer!

River was at a good height with good clarity, saw 5 salmon show, 3 were leaping high from the water so may have been kelts. Saw 2 others in different places head and tail quietly but could not tempt them, despite my efforts. Had 2 pike on rapala, one of which was around 30lb and leapt from the river twice, the other around 10lb,
Thanks to the WUF, in particular Seth for sorting out the locked gate.

Fished two relatively short sessions over the two days (4-5 hrs each)
Friday 11th October - 2 Barbel taken on consecutive casts at around 10.15am - 10.30am, no action at all either side of that. Both fish around the 5lb Mark
Saturday 12th October - 2 Barbel + 1 Chub taken mid-late afternoon. 1 Barbel around 5lb the other might have made 6.5lb with a struggle. The Chub was around 3lb
All fish came on feeder fished pellet.

4 Barbel, 1 Chub
