It was my first time on the Wye so I arrived at first light full of optimism. The river was high and fast after all the recent rain. I could barely hold bottom, so spent most of the morning walking the stretch trying every swim I could. At this point I didn't mind I wasn't catching as the surroundings were breathtaking. I decided to call it after a few hours and come back later.
I returned about 3pm and settled in a swim upstream that had a large tree sheltering the flow and fished just on the crease with a 6oz lead. Probably not much more than a rod length out. Within 5 minutes it hooped over and it was pretty much consistent action after that until darkness. Biggest fish went 11lb 4oz and nearly pulled my arm off in the flow. All fish caught on either dumbells cut down to pellet shape or meat. Very enjoyable fishing in some of the most idyllic settings imaginable.

River water level good but clear. Rained all day making the swims at the top end of the beat to treacherous to fish. Fished the bend above the vanstone pool, tried various baits and methods which resulted in 2 bites and 2 lost fish to hook pulls. Our worst days fishing ever on the river.

River still falling slowly with some colour. Very mild and breezy. Started at midday, with barbel coming at intervals until about 17.00. All the fish on meat and, remarkably, all about the same size, around 6lbs (estimated). Swim died in the evening with only a couple of smallish chub and with rain setting in I decided to call time on a good day.

Come on then, where are they?!!. A very pleasant autumnal day on the river with resonable enough conditions but from 09:00 to 16:00, six swims, a wide bait repertoire, static and floating baits produced just a couple of knocks, finally at 16:00 two genuine bites resulting in a Chub of around 2lb. and a small but lively Barbel of around 5lb. then again absolutely dead until the last 35mins. which produced three good quality Chub, two over 4lbs. and one over 5lbs. and one small Barbel lost to a hook pull at the net, all taken on meat.

Absolutely brilliant day on a new beat for my son and I , we had 5 barbel up to 7 lb and 7 chub up to an amazing 5 lb 9 oz what a day conditions were perfect ???? river up a bit with a slight colour and very calm , the trees still seam to have there leaves so no rubbish on our line , most of the fish were on plain luncheon meat with a running ledger and the others were on pellet and feeder ! The wildlife was amazing plenty of kingfishers , deer and even pike chasing fish in the shallows , thanks for a proper red letter day .
