First time back on this lovely stretch for 5 years , it’s changed a bit naturally. I had a nostalgic walk up to the vanstone tree peg as my dad sat there and watched me fish there back in 2012 when it was part of the beat... not with us anymore god bless him.
To the fishing.. river pushing through with lots of blanket weed but that is a couple of the challenges that you have to combat fishing this river ... 1 eel, 4 chub and 7 pristine barbel topped with a 9lb 4oz .. 1 of my favorite beats this regardless of the conditions.. I’ll be back!

Arrived to find the river up and chocolate brown with a fair pace to it Very quiet day with nothing troubling the rod top except vast amounts of blanket or silkweed which coated everything, masking the hookbait and smothering the feeder.
Looking at the river level gauges everything seemed to be gradually dropping in the evening which is when bites started to occur. An eel of 1.5lb started it, a gnarly battered looking barbel of not quite 5lb gave a great fight despite its torn, bent and mangled tail not to mention a 50p sized sore on its flank.
A chublet of 6oz swallowed a 16mm pellet and finished with one of 2.5lb on meat.
Can't wait to return though to what is a breathtakingly beautiful stretch. All sorts of creatures to be seen, egrets, herons, buzzards, deer, all manner of birds but the crowning glory was a goldcrest sat in the tree above me.

Stunning

A good day although a bit slow on the fishing front. Always good to be on this lovely stretch of the Wye. River looked good with a bit of colour but could probably benefit from a rise in level.
All fish caught on feeder tactics. 1 barbel and one chub apiece from the top of the stretch. Have had some huge days here and will be back.

River looking good and a bit less weed coming down today. Mostly cloudy, so I started in a spirit of optimism. Small chub from the off, whatever the bait and twice as many must have fallen off as I landed. Once again no sign of the barbel. I think I may revert to my former habit of not trying to catch them in the first couple of weeks of the season. But then it's good to be on the Wye even if the fish are elusive.

Weather extremely hot with bright sunlight. River the colour of tea but with a reasonable flow. Did not start fishing until 5.30pm. Fished the top end of the beat. All fish caught on luncheon meat.
