A really hot day on what was another new beat for me. The barbel, of about 6lbs, came first cast, literally as the bait touched bottom, the quickest I have ever caught one in a session. Sadly, it turned out to be the only one of the day. I had to wait until almost sunset for another fish, this time a scale perfect chub of 4lbs 8oz. Conditions were far from perfect, high temperatures and high pressure on a low and gin clear river, on a beat I’d never fished before, so I was happy enough to catch anything at all. I did find myself wishing I’d bought my float gear though, as a moving bait might have been more effective on a day like that.

Did a short evening session which produced plenty of bites throughout. Fished feeder and pellet. Waders were essential for playing fish in amongst the rocks.

River level quite low but any day is a good day to be at the river. Three barbel in the 7-8lb range and 2 chub around 3lb. Overcast day with some showers. Lockdown is definitely over as the amount of canoes was annoying to say the least, they started at 7am. I am sure the fish are used to it (just anglers are not) and most canoe occupants are respectful however it baffles me why people feel the need to blast their radios in the beautiful scenery. Also some people decided to wade and swim down rather than use the kayak so it needs some mental adjustment to fully enjoy the fishing!!
