River Ht .42m Fished the last two pegs at the far end of the beat. Caught 3 Barbel between 6 and 8lb and 3 Chub all between 2 1/2 to 3lb.
Barbel caught on sweetcorn and Chub on halibut pellet. All caught on ledger tatics fished to the nearside swim of the river.
I appreciate the Foundations policy of keeping rivers in a natural state but walked the full stretch of the river and realistically found approx 4 fishable pegs!
I'm not as young as I used to be and high slippery banks with access difficulties can lead to accidents. Even the game lads would have difficulty accessing this beat. A balance does need to prevail between access and enviromental quality.
On the positive great days fishing in fantastic surroundings.

WUF note - This beat was walked by WUF staff on 2nd July and there are 7 accessible swims along it's length with the option for anglers to cut their own wilder swims should they so wish.

Had a real grueller yesterday despite starting the session around 4.30am and fishing straight through to 9.30pm. Lost a fish early on but blanked otherwise. My friend saved the blank at dusk with a sinlgle 5lb barbel but generally very difficult. Conditions looked perfect and we both took the usual pellet/feeder approach (varied hook sizes/lengths, used range of pellets 8>11 mm). As we are both new to this water any suggestions (from seasoned Wye fanatics) as to why this might be (semi polite only) MUCH appreciated.
AMAZING venue, thanks WUF for opening these beats, long may you prosper!

We had to battle our way through 5ft high undergrowth to get to swims but had a good day after that, great stretch and will be back again.

My first fishing visit with a friend who has fished this stretch before. I will definately return after a very good days fishing in a beutiful setting. River was coloured and the weather was very hot and sunny. We had 7 barbel all weighing between 7-8lb and I had a PB Chub around the 4lb mark. Fished ledger rig with pellet.

Both barbel around 7lb, small chublets and an eel. Only fished for a couple of hours in the evening as bright sunshine and high temps during the day. Packed up around 8.30pm with the sun going down on Goodrich Castle. As the swim I was in had no bankside it was a case of standing in the river with my waders and my dog splashing around in the shallows behind me. Hunger, the need for a beer and wanting to catch the 2nd half meant pack up when they were coming on the feed, as usual with England football the wrong option! Lovely setting, will be back in the Autumn.

Arrived to find the banks pristine - i.e. as nature intended so sweated away and fought my way to my favourite swim once I had located the post which marks it in the undergrowth. If nettle stings were money then I would be a billionaire! River was quite coloured and seemingly weed free compared to other occasions when I have visited. Excellent fishing though the heat and humidity were merciless so I reluctantly called it a day at 6pm and could have had plenty more fish if I had stuck it out. Ended up with 8 Barbel to 8lb and 2 Chub all caught on pellet. Excellent day all round but hard work.

Most of middle and lower beat unfishable because you cannot get to the banks. The undergrowth is 6ft tall! Disappointing day as a result.

Fished Wed 14 & Thur 15th, river dropping and clearing all the time. Weather very hot and bright. River dropped around 1.5m over the two days. Access to most pools good with steps having fairly recently been cut into banks.
Sadly no fish seen or touched.
