Started around 14:30, thankfully the extraction pump wasn’t in use. Although it was raining the river was low and slow so we kept to the deeper water just upstream from the parking area.

Safety note; the growth next to the concrete walkway was so overgrown that only half the width of the path was useable. This meant walking was dangerously close to the 6ft drop into the river.

Other than that, a great afternoon.

Very low and clear water with hot sun which is probably the reason for only a couple of Barbel

I fished early morning and late evening using feeder and pellet. The morning was very quiet, just one fish lost at the net. Evening session was much better, with one Chub landed and plenty of other bites missed. The fish switched on for about an hour in the evening, with bites coming every cast. The river was still low, even though it rained very heavily the day before. This was my first time on a fishing passport fishery, and I will definitely be returning some time in the future.

Arrived at what was a new beat for me. Word of warning, I didn't attend the previous day when the weather gods turned awful so the consequent mess when getting through the various gates and access points in the dairy farm was very noticeable - needless to say there was a fair old pong in my car on the way home..

Regarding the fishery, it's beautiful as all the Wye beats are. Unfortunately, the bottom half of the fishery is mainly very shallow water. Add the excessive bright sunshine to the mix and the only fish being tempted were those of the bait attacking, not good enough to register a proper bite type. Had a couple of smaller chub (less than 1lb) this way plus a hard scrapping 3.5lb fish right under a bush. Due to the sunny and bright clear conditions neither float or feeder fishing seemed to be a successful approach. Allied to that is the nigh on blanket disappearance of any streamer weed, ranunculus etc - the blooms caused by the poultry farm discharges MUST BE STOPPED and the health of this beautiful river allowed to recover. It isn't a coincidence that chub seem to be everywhere and barbel showing fleetingly and often late when darkness allows them to be less cautious.

The top half of the fishery has a bit more water on it but seems to be no more than 3.5 - 4ft judging by the float trotting efforts. Left visiting this part until the afternoon and evening but no matter how much I varied the methods and fined down my tackle it was dead. About 8pm had a right screamer and landed the one barbel, a pristine hard fighting fish that makes the visits here worthwhile, my main reason really. I don't want to make repeat visits here for bags of chub taken on stepped up barbel tackle.

Weary, frustrated rant over - sorry if that isn't what constitutes a catch report. Upside was the extreme hot sun did dry out the cow deposits up the track and through the farm.....
