Several fish showing but none taken. Bright sunshine down the length of the beat can't have helped. Lots of shad present. Lovely stretch of fly water at the bottom of the beat. Banks a little over grown for those wishing to spin the slower water higher up the beat. It's a shame as some of it looks like lovely water. Some of the middle of the beat would suit a fly if you could get to it

On the river before 6 and fished hard until 4, when aching back and hunger finally blunted optimism. First time out this year and not enough water to really get the fly swinging well, so using paterns with lots of movement. Also surprisingly low visibility which can't have helped either.
Lots of fish showing - often silver (and large) but not even a pull.
Limited amount of fly water at this level and canoeists tended to choos the head of the run for their beach parties which isn't good. Also access was not simple with a farm yard and 4 barriers to negotiate to get to the river....

Booked late so we couldn't get on our preffered beat for the last day on the river for 2017.
River had fined off nicely and temperatures rising so expected to catch. As is the case with a first visit took a good walk to
check out the stretch and options, and found a number of likely areas.
Struggled until lunchtime picking up one 4lb chub, but moved around during the afternoon and managed seven barbel up to 7lb 12oz on meat.
Lost a lot of tackle in a number of swims so will be interested to see the river in the summer to get to know it better.

All in all a great end to our river season.

As per previous reports 4x4 needed to get to the river, it had drained off prior to our visit but still very muddy.

Thanks WUF for your advice

River fining down. Good colour and temp of 7.c. River about 2/3ft above summer levels. Very mild and the forecasted rain stayed away.
2 Barbel and 1 chub caught at up stream end ,chub and one lost barbel from last downstream field.
Usual pellet and boilie.
As stated earlier , don't attempt to get in the field without a 4x4.
Opening and shutting gates ,expect to get very muddy !
