.70 on the Erwood gauge today and a much cooler water temperature. Trout to 10” but only two of that size. Others small and total contains half a dozen parr. I’ve never caught so many dace while trout fishing. They were a bit of a nuisance in the top of the beat today.
A number of cormorants and goosanders seen, and I suspect they’ve cleared out a good number of the bigger trout in the last few months.

A lovely few hours on the Rectory and although still low, it was nice to see a bit of fresher water coming down the Wye after last week's rain. Concentrating mainly on the Rock Pool, I had a couple of trout just over the 1lb mark, a dace and a 3lb chub, which took some getting in through the fast water. All fish came to size 12 tungsten nymph, even the dace.

‘Other’ were 4 dace and about 20 salmon parr (great sign for the future), all taking pink tailed blowtorch nymph usually on dropper. Beat was as low as we have seen it albeit about a foot higher than four days previous. Recent rain (and it rained all this day too) has refreshed the river somewhat but all fish were from faster moving water. Only used the net four times between us!. Fabulous to be back fishing after a dry summer (weather and fishing).

River level 0.32m of the EA Erwood Gauge, so very low.
Fished noon until about 5pm. Water temperature was 16.6 deg on arrival, but had risen to 18.5 deg by about 5pm, so I stopped fishing. With the recent colder nights, I had hoped for colder water.
Fished some small nymphs through the runs. Caught three recordable trout to 13", a 10" grayling and a 12" chub. As well as about a dozen much smaller trout, parr and grayling. Nothing rising. Scared off two cormorants.
