Always lovely to get on my favourite stretch of the upper Wye. Due to a family medical emergency wasn't able to take up my rod until about 3pm but had a nice few hours till I had to dash home. Met and introduced myself to the other rod, a visiting angler from Angelsea who had just caught and nobly returned a 10lber just as I arrived and said that another angler had recently been through all the pools with a spinner so I shouldn't be too hopeful. Went to the top end of the beat and fished down to the Rock Pool just below the bridge but nothing happening despite water being very fishable. Proceeded to fish from the Mill Stream down and noted and appreciated that someone had trimmed the banks/paths in this section making them much more accessible than previously.

No fish today. River low AGAIN!!!

Fished with shfc in morning then fished the fly late afternoon early evening 1 trout caught. 1st time fishing this stunning beat. Will be back again when theirs a bit of water running. Great days fishing on a nice overcast day.

Fished the morning with shfc had my 1st ever Wye salmon from the neck of the Rectory a hen fish of about 10lb very lightly hooked. Fish was slightly coloured but in great condition. Beautiful stretch of water cannot wait to return. Highly recommend beat

Fished the hitch through the mill stream and neck of the rectory to no avail but a beautiful sunset !

2 Trout

A pretty quiet day all in all, a couple of trout landed and some parr and small fish lost. One or two sightings of salmon but nothing hooked.

2 Trout

1ft 1 inch on the gauge, running clear, but no catch. Before the sun got on the water, a fish hooked in the Rectory Neck on a size 10 Bann Shrimp. It backed steadily down into Rectory shaking its head until eventually the hook pulled. Another test of character.

Water dropping off now had a 29" hen fish from the mill stream in the morning and a 37" cock fish from the rock pool that went absolutely crazy when it realised it was hooked !?

2 Salmon

Small flies used did not get a pull . i would like to say a big thank you to Tim Hughes for giving me lots of information and i have gained some more knowledge on where to fish.
