Having read DC and RS feedback for the same day its comforting for us (and perhaps them!) to know that we were not the only ones that struggled. Given we were on the next beat down hardly surprising that we had the same cold squally weather and that the fish were not very interested. Total was 5 wbt best 14" and only the 1 10" grayling to our two rods - all the trout came between 5 and 6 pm when there was a small hatch of olives and the fish woke up. The trout were all on the skinny side - has feeding been poor this summer? In pleading mitigation this was my first outing since coronary and I was fishing gently!

None salmon caught or seen. Disappointed as previous anglers caught fish here. Low water and hot day with clear sky in my defence. Beautiful beat though. Will be back when conditions are more suitable to get catch return right.

After heart stopping moments in the Heirag when a fish hit the spinner, only to see a very large chub come to the surface, to catching my first salmon in the Ferry Pool - a cock grilse of about 7lb, safely returned of course. Many thanks to all at the Wye and Usk for making this possible, what a fantastic days fishing.

Fished 9 til 1 caught 9 small trout 6 - 7 inches 1 trout at 12 inches and 4 grayling from 9 to 15 inches on a mix of dries, nymphs and spiders a nice beat with plenty of water to go at but I didnt feel like I got the best out of this beat. I think I need more practice on this size river. Little surface activity but a dry fly in the fast runs tended to bring some good grayling up.

Lesson learned from Abernant. Downstream spiders in pacey water produced more than 20 WBT 9-13”, 2 very nice 16” grayling and countless salmon parr. Good sport despite Wye being in poor condition.

Plenty of small trout and parr on the Silver Stoat, but alas no Salmon. Water falling, was down to 8" on the gauge, and too hot. Still a good day out of the office.

Plenty of water in the river after recent rain - wading was a bit more of a challange and lost my footing on a few occasions. Not much in the way of fly life that I saw and didn't see many fish rise except for a 15 minute period mid-afternoon. Overall mananged to catch 10 Brown Trout with the biggest being 17 inches. All caught on dry fly (Parachute ginger quill) and all returned unharmed. A great day out as always - especially as this was my first time going solo as I normally have my old man with me.
