Nice stretch of water and a good rise to olives occurred in the pm. Caught 4 brown trout in total, best around 13 inches. All fish returned and were good condition. Rose several fish to CDC olives but only got one of these to the net. Remainder caught on gold head hare's ear nymph.

Drove up in varying degrees on rain and cloud accompanied with fierce gusting winds for good measure. Water level perfect with just a tinge of colour.
Managed 3 hours fishig before the weather got the better of me. 3 wbt all returned on a combination of green bugs and spiders along with an angry rainbow trout of about 2.5lbs which was unexpected to say the least. Unfortunately the rainbow snapped me at the net otherwise it would have been taken for supper.
First time on this beat and would thoroughly recommend. Easy access and easy wading but more importantly offers a wide range of water. For me this is the Usk at its best.

Lovely beat with varied waters fished on a showery and blustery day. 2 WBT (10" and 6") landed and returned. Got into the heaviest fish I've ever hooked on WUF at the tail of Sewage Pool. Seriously tested my 4WT before jumping off in fast run below the tail of pool. Can only report the one that got away and not what it was. Fished down on Goldhead Nymphs and then up a bit with an Adams to occasional rises to a sporadic hatch, but no joy.

Will come back for the one that got away.

One small brown trout - 8oz which was returned and, amazingly, a rainbow trout. This was 2lb 8oz and we kept it as it was damaged, possibly by an otter.
I was not under the impression that stock fish were put in the river, other than Glanusk. Saw several cormorants too. Will report it on cormorant watch.
Saw no salmon at all.
WUF Note: Rainbow trout show up occasionally in both rivers, usually there as a result of stocked pond overflowing. We request that any rainbows caught are removed.

I saw no salmon at all, surprising as I've seen salmon every time i've to this beat. I also saw only 4 rises by brown trout taking from the surface. Must have been just unlucky!!

The conditions were pefect for an evenings fishing in the carpark of Sainsburys in Cwmbran, but by the time I'd driven to Brecon the temperature had dropped from 25 deg to 18 degrees and there was a stiff breeze blowing straight down the river, as was the sun.
Fished more in hope than anticipation from 5 pm, spotted an otter frollicking in the narrow section above the Cynrig. This for me is normally a productive stretch, perhaps no so much in the future !particularly as i could see what looked like a "nest ?" "set ?"
Otter notwithstanding I caught a stocky on a klink and tempted two others which didnt connect.
Sat down on the river bank about 8:30, breeze had dropped. Waded out into the river as fish started to rise around 10 pm, most of the fish were out of reach. Connected with something big about 10:45 in the pitch black lost it after much heavy splashing about 5 seconds later.
Chip shop was shut in Crickhowell.

6 trout about 5 inches and 1 in excess of 1lb. All in very good condition returned safely. All fish caught New Zealand style. All caught with help of excellent instructor Chris Price. Chris was fantastic and stayed for near 12 hours only leaving when we had said we had had enough as it was too dark to thread a hook. Cant recommend him highly enough. River in superb condition unbeatable value at 30 per day. Ty Torlan 5 star BB accommodation just outside Brecon as recommended by the foundation staff. Your website and telephone staff are the best we have come across. We can't wait for our next visit. Loved every minute. A trip to remember. A dream of a weekend.
