Despite almost perfect water conditions it was a very difficult day. We managed about 8 fish in all including two belters of 20 inches and 18 inches.

There was a big problem with Goosanders during the day, we spent the day chasing a group of more than ten from pool to pool. Maybe this would explain the low catch return.
There was also a pipe letting out hideous grey discharge at the top of the last run before the big flats at the top of the beat. It was colouring the water for quite a way down stream and did not smell too pleasant.

WUF NOTE - please report any suspected pollution to the Environment Agency's Hotline 0800 807060 immediately. Goosanders and Cormorants should be recorded on the Angling Trust's website.

5 WBT to 12 inches but had to work hard for these finnicky fish. The action came from the long flats, after fruitless searches of the riffles with nymphs. Stealth manouvres, long leaders, small flies and delicate casting were the order of the day. Took fish on #20 Griffiths gnat and #20 parachute (Pale Watery imitation). Missed a lot of rises too - in some cases I think the fish shied away at the last minute, in other cases it was my timing that was called into question! Heavy rain in the evening sent me home earlier than I'd hoped.

Warm overcast day with little breeze. Very little surface activity so Czech nymphed in faster water. Used a combination of caddis nynphs and GBPTN. Caught 7 WBT 8" to 12" and lost as many again. Fab day, had the beat to myself.

A slow start culminating in a lively half hour rise at sunset with an abundant sedge hatch. I ended the day with 16 WBT of varying sizes up to 1 lb. S.H. of Burleigh caught 10 WBT up to 1 lb. Mainly taking PTN and Klink.

River rising after overnight rain, though it day stay reasonably clear. Fished for two and a half hours around midday. Resorted to a beadhead and spider combination and had a 8" fish on a waterhen bloa, together with a few other tugs. Excellent access/directions to this beat.

Despite the horizontal rain and high winds we had an excellent day. A steady hatch of small olives kept the fish interested for most of the day. Klink & dink worked consistently throughout.

SM - 8 fish 6 - 8". Lost a large fish around the 3lb mark. All returned. PH - 4 fish, 3 of which were around 1.5lb. Also lost several large fish. 1 fish taken.

Lots of rises missed also. Great sport and very glad we braved the conditions

River was close to in-flood and coloured after 2 days of heavy rain. Not good for trout really. Managed 1 Brown only (returned)of about 1 lb but moved several others and had several plucks and pulls. Fished team of 3 Czech style or downstream beneath a fast sinking leader to try to get down to the fish in the heavy current.

A lovely stretch of river! A season rod was just landing a lovely plump 17" wbt in front of us when we arrived - but that was very nearly it!

3 fish rose all day - 2 caught, one long distance catch and release. 2 x 8" wbt final tally. Very cold again - will return to this super beat when weather is more predictable

Fished with a friend on another chilly June day that felt more like early April. 5 small wbt landed between us (I only had the one take all day).

The downstream wind made casting and line control rather tricky and the low air temperature coupled with gusty winds put the mockers on any kind of hatch. All fish were taken on nymphs.
