River had dropped and was easily wadeable and fishable. Smattering of March Browns on an off with 4 fish to dry flies and the rest to spiders. All small 9-13” but in good condition. This is a lovely beat and very accessible with few trees on the fishing bank.

We arrived at the water when it was 1.5ft on the Brecon gauge but very coloured. There was a little bit of visibility in the margins but otherwise it looked grim. We decided to give it a go in the hope that it would clear through the day. There was a sparse hatch of LDOs but a couple of brilliant hatches of March Browns. No fish rose to the March Browns but one or two came up for the LDO emergers. Only one succumbed to our dry flies, the rest of our fish being taken on spiders and nymph. The water cleared somewhat by mid afternoon but it was still pretty coloured. An enjoyable day and we ended up with 7 more fish than we thought we would when we first saw the state of the water.

It was great to be back on this lovely beat. The water was a tad high, showing 1ft 8 inches at Brecon, but it cleared pretty quickly. Unfortunately, the rain came in quite hard around 1pm, which put a stop to any hatches. Most of the fish were taken on spiders, one on the nymph and one on the dry to end the day.

Despite heavy rain the previous day, the Usk was fishable, and I found quite a few fish on the inside of a bend in shallower, steady water where presumably they'd gathered out of the big currents. Lost 3, landed one, on duo (heavy nymph) and spiders. An intense rise for about 2 minutes at about 1pm, when I didn't have a dry fly attached! When I'd got it on, the hatch/rise had finished. You've got to be ready...

River still highish (18” on Brecon gauge) running fast but clear. Stiff cold wind from SE ; Rain began at 11:00. An uncomfortable few hours fishing a PTN in the slower water.

Moving the locked gate down the hill has helped enormously. Field is very wet and I struggled even with 4WD. If you have doubts about your vehicle’s capability, may be wise to park on the recommended hard standing.

Winter floods have altered bank profile below Sewage Pool. Without a step ladder or crampons, be prepared to walk to the very bottom of the beat to access the river!
