Heavy rain for most of the day made conditions challenging. In between downpours there was plenty of surface activity with 2 trout caught and many takes missed. On 4 occasions takes resulted in flies being severed from the tippet and on one occassion a fish was hooked which broke the leader and nearly pulled the rod from hand into the water. Goodness knows what the fish was but it was certainly very big.

Heavy showers and some sunshine. A few fish rising but we were unsure what they were feeding on. Tried everything but never seemed to find the answer. Lovely day on a beautiful beat.

Very difficult quiet day

First visit to the river Usk as have mostly been fishing the river Wye. As stated before the river is in need of a lot of rain to bring it up to its best. I did drive through the field as no sheep present and parked by bridge. Started bottom of beat and worked my way up. Some trout rising and did have a chance but missed to a fished KH side 10. Only action was at top of beat with the only fish of the day caught on size 10 jig black nymph which has been a winner recently. My biggest trout to date and was around 10/12 inches.

Fished from the outlet down to the bridge, hooked 3 on buzzer (2.30-4.30pm) but only landed 1 brownie approx 20cm. Very hot day, crystal clear and water low so lots of rocks and snags but a few deep pools.
