A challenging day. In the 24 hours after booking the river coloured up heavily. With the downstream wind still gusting strongly despite forecasts there were no hatches. Determined not to spend the day blind nymphing I worked shallow seams and edges with dries. This produced 3 vicious takes to a large Klink but unfortunately resulted in no hookups. The fishing was not helped by 3 dog owners walking up the edge of the river ahead of me throwing sticks into the stream for their pets to retrieve. To add to this disturbance 2 canoeists came down through all the fishable water and appeared to pull out at the fishing parking area. I assume they have permission to do this and know the combination on the gate padlock .....? Still despite all this it was enjoyable to be on the river.

Only one trout on GRHE nymph, released in good condition. Trout rising freely to hatch at around dusk but no luck with the dry fly.

Fishing is slow low water and spooky fish. Took a sedge in fast water. Nice fish about 13 inches. Very healthy.

Arrived at river at 16:00. Bright and sunny with a brisk downstream breeze. River on its bones. Fished the faster runs with a PTN to pass the time to the evening rise. Nothing moving before I had to leave at 21:15. Suspect I needed to stay another hour or so!

Fly only. All trout returned. Water level very low. At the 'Sewage pool' I tested for bugs etc and it was very poor. Lots of slime covering rocks. The trout caught looked very healthy and ranged from approx .5lb to 1.5 lb. Water temp approx. 15 degrees.

We tried pretty much everything very little moving on the surface, and not luck with nymph or droppers. Very unusual but still adequate water in the river.
Fishing passport is the best thing since sliced bread. So easy to use and great water

All fish caught on variety of medium weight beaded nymphs in deep pockets of faster water. Hooked around 9 fish but only got 5 to the net. Released in good condition. Fish rising to prolific hatch as I was leaving at about 8.45 pm.
