Lots of surface activity, but a lack of wind and minimal ripple meant that it was easy for the fish to see that the flies were artificial, so many more attempted takes than fish landed.
All fish taken on dry flies, best fish were around 1/2 lb.

The weather forecast the day before indicated a cloudy start then sunshine for the rest of the day from mid morning. So the decision for an early start was made. Arrived around 8am to low cloud and damp conditions. Fishing was slightly delayed due to a puncture and the need to change the wheel (tuned out to be an expensive fishing trip as the tyre was not repairable). Fish were rising to flies fished on the surface but not easy to hook. A hand full of fish landed before lunch then back out in the afternoon with the cloud base higher but still no signs of the sun. Black terrestrial flies of various sizes where now being blown onto the water with the trout going mad for them. At times there was so many fish rising in front of us we didn't know which one to cast to first. Fishing black flies fished on or just under the surface we easily landed more than 20 fish each, with a couple being around the 1/2 pound size. As we packed away at 6:30pm the sun made its first appearance. Beautiful natural lake to fish and once again saw a hen harrier.

Following my session here to start the Brown Trout season on 23rd March was a complete flip of the coin and angling fortunes.

Arriving at 0800 in the fog, 12c and dressing in a coat and woolly hat it could indeed have been March.
A strong wind from down the Llyn was producing some reasonably waves! An ominous start loomed.

Walking to the top of Bugeilyn provided a slight shelter between the metal hurdle and the bog.
After noticing some crane flies around the edges it wasn’t long before a trout rose to take one, then another.
Covering the fish with a grey wolf soon had him in the net.
By lunch 7 fish had been caught, 5 to the wolf and 2 on a white moth pattern then things went quite.
The hat and coat were still on!

Walking back to the truck around 1200 and returning to the top of the Llyn around 1315 was like entering another day.
No hat or coat required. Full sun, reduced wind plus an incredible amount of rising fish in full feeding mode as literally hundreds of small black flies were getting blown off the hill into the water.
It was madness, at times hard to tell my own pattern (a small beetle) from the naturals.
Within an hour 18 fish had been brought to the net taking it to 25 when things quietened down.

By 1500 not much was stirring except the occasional rise.

The knotted gnat came out resulting in 2 more fish.

A truly remarkable day.
27 brown trout all caught on dry flies.
Another was lost with several missed rises along the way.
Finishing at 1600 will forever leave the question of “what if an evening hatch came off?”

Without doubt these are some of the most beautiful brown trout to be caught in one of the most spectacular locations.

Dry but windy as usual, lilly pads have made fishing too frustrating for me to return, the swamp on the flat bank is dangerous with holes, you could easily brake your ankle. Road is easily accessible in a normal car.

The perfect weather when I unlocked the top nature reserve gate this morning at half six ....Overcast , with a strong breeze, perfect for Bugeilyn!!!
She's like a big mug of horlicks , been a full year since I've been to one of my old favourites....A client wanted to change a fishing day, so, I had a free day, so up into the mountains it was then......
Sublime sport from the off ..... My selected wets for here doing the business .... Lovely solid takes too, and I'm sure the overall average size of the brownies here is much bigger than twenty years ago here !!!! Is there more food, with more aquatic weeds, and nuphar, now in abundance, particularly on the right hand , christmas tree shoreline..... who knows ????
Good fish, most over nine inches, with five or six eleven of twelve inch fish ....Two double hook ups also .... Now they put a lovely bend in your rod !!! Superb....and the colours of these black finned brown trout....stunning, with a green platinum hue ... fantastic...
Some dry fly sport too mid afternoon, thd breeze dropped, uo came the fish .... A small black f fly doing the business , tight yo thf lilly pads at tgr very top end ... Tis a bit hairy uo there careful walking so you don't go through the top crust !!! Tis thr moving of it that kind of worries me ... Actually I loop around the boggy section and comf back in towards the lake again ....Fab aggressive takes too, on thf dries , think I tallied just over eight on thf dries, thf remainder on thf tiny wets ... my Diawl Bach doing the business... very solid takes too them !!!
A fantastic red letter day at an old timer .... Twenty six, maybe one or two more ... It's just super sport !! I would say, getting the right weather is everything for this llyn, as it is with most mountain llyns !!! Right, that's me ready for a can of Stowford Press.....Well earned I'd say !!!!!!! Lol ........

Lovely to be back up at Bugeilyn very peaceful apart from a low level RAF flyby straight up the middle of the Llyn.
A few showers and rather a strong wind made casting difficult from the left bank.
Plenty of action on a pair of Half Hog hoppers fished wet and dry.
most fish 6 to 8 inches.

As always such a pleasure to see Bugeilyn come into sight as you round the crest, conditions not exactly ideal, v sunny, wind intially blowing down the Llyn toward boathouse. Made our way upto the top end on the left bank and picked up a few. It really came on later in the day when a hatch got the fish rising and all taken off the top on the usual dries. The stamp of the fish has definatly improved, all a good size and fiesty.
We were not the only ones fishing either, we had the pleasure of watching an Osprey circling and diving in and on its third attempt made off with a trout in its claws, very impressive.

Fished the morning and fabulous to be back. Hot but still very windy with an Easterly breeze. Tried to fish the Christmas tree bank but struggled to cast in the wind. Did have a couple of attempted grabs on my Coch-y-bonddu. Moved to the other side where casting was easier. After numerous rises and numerous misses, finally had one on the dropper (Diawl Bach) and one on the point (Coch-y-bonddu) at the same time - that was a first for me! Don’t know whether I hit a shoal or something about the wind rising but definitely strange. No other fish after that. Lots of daddy long legs about of course kites circling above. Fabulous morning!
