Another great day at Llyn Buguilyn, sunny and almost windless not ideal but lots of activity on top. All taken on small black dries. Left bank in first session then right bank upto the christmas tree. Most fish in morning , most of afternoon lake was like a millpond.

First visit here and thought I had picked the wrong day when I arrived to torrential rain. Had a cup of Tea in the car waiting for the rain to stop which it did around 11.30. Fished left from the boat house and had interest from the start.
Fished 2 flies Bibio and Butcher both size 12. Excellent average size of fish with the smallest around 8 inch but most 10 to 12 inches. Sport slowed in the afternoon as the sun got stronger and I called it a day around 4.

Few hours in afternoon, beaten by winds and rain- such is fishing the upland Llyns. No fish caught, despite trying variety of flies. Drove down to boat house.

Water was very warm (19C). No surface action till very late- we were packing up. Otherwise we tried to find deep water. Fished trad wets, nymphs and buzzers through whole depth. Nothing. Usually get several but total blank today. Wind meant couldn't fish the Marsh side easily till late.

Had a few hours at the end of a trip to visit this stunning place . It’s a long walk from parking at the gate , but easy to navigate. A stunning llyn with some great fighting brown trout.
Not the easiest place to fish, really boggy in areas , and some dodgy holes in the ground to watch out for when walking . Fished both sides, caught on both. To walk around the west side , looked too boggy to go around from the boat hut, so took the safer option from the road back by the house ruins. Played it safe as I was fishing solo. Fished 3 flies , Diawl Bach, ptn and Bibio, fish took a liking to all three .

A sweltering hot day with not a cloud in the sky---not typical Bugeilyn conditions !! We struggled with the fishing but the surroundings looked spectacular.

Well after getting up at sparrows fart , after a long week's work , wondered if perhaps a lie in would have been beneficial , gave the pooch a good walk , heading of for this jewel of a lake . . . .
Arrived at half seven , nice ripple on this special mountain lake , and overcast with a temperature of 13 degrees , conditions looked good !!!!
Tackled up with my five weight nine foot rod , and it seemed really cumbersome to begin with, after a good few weeks of using my two weight six foot rod on the streams locally . Initially I opted for my home tyings of traditional wets , small dark patterns , bibio and clan chief . . .
Fished the easterly side , and had one good fish , but things were slow . . I moved all the way down to the top end of the lake , tricky walking and some devious deep holes to watch , deep with water too . . . . . Some steady splashy rises started to appear about nineish in the top area , and there were some trouty sedges flying around , making the Bugeilyn brownies go crazy !!!
I stuck on a size twelve dry sedge pattern , and almost as soon as it landed . . . bang !!! Lovely fish on quickly admired them back in , another nine followed over two hours , all on the same fly , looked a bit battered by then , but possibly the attraction ??
I worked my way down the westerly bank , working a Coch y Bonddu dry with the small sedge , didn't seem overly fussy , hitting both with confidence and I also missed a good few too , lightening quick , but hitting the dries with a really satisfying splashy take !
All fish were in cracking condition , ranging from six to thirteen inches , may be a tad more . . . A fabulous day , great fun , sixteen beautiful brownies caught and released and some quality big air too , Great for the soul !!!! Was a nice change from the confines of the Arrow , Pinsley and Lugg beats , shall head up to the hills again very soon , a memorable seven hours sport . . . . . . Superb fun !!!!!!!!!
