Turned up at Beacons Reservoir at around threeish hoping that some evening dry fly sport would be on the cards. It was blowing a nice," trouty "westerly breeze and overcast with low clouds when I arrived at this picturesque reservoir ,deep in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Initially I fished the roadside shore and with a team of two, my home tied bibio variant and PTN and it wasn't long before I was into a very strong Beacons brownie , which when netted looked very similar to some of the brownies in the irish loughs , beautifully marked , a quick pic and straight back in . I did work the area around the dam wall using various flies , butchers , Montanas and gold beaded nymphs but no takers so headed back to the easterly shore , and early evening good picked up another superbly conditoned fish , taking my version of a Kate McClaren with confidence !!!!! The last fish of the day was in the shallower area of the reservoir and hammered my bibio pattern just in the ripple. A fun few hours , and bumped into a pleasant chap , Alun , who is a member of the Ospreys club locally and purchase season permits for the reservoir and beats on the Taff. I'll be returning again to this charming water again very soon . . . . . . . . . . .

First time at this lovely location , and a nice change from the upland Llyns . Water clarity and insect life was abundant and shoals of minnows and young trout were evident in big numbers at the top end of the reservoir . I did start at the top shallow end , as there were some steady rises on the roadside shore , and all the way up to the inlet . Fished various small CDC emergers and hawthorn flies , but no takers . I moved back down to the roadside shore , and put on a team of my home tied offerings . Kate McCalaren and tiny bibio variant , had the first cracking fish , pound ish , which took the KM , quick pic and quickly released back into the reservoir, and a few casts later , had two smaller fish one on the bibio and one on the KM , quickly admired then with splashy appraisal , off they went !!!!! Was a fun four hours , and shall head again to this adorable reservoir very soon . Not sure as fish should be taken from here , should be the same protocol as Talybont . I feel if folks want to take fish , have a crack on Clewedog , or Usk reservoir !!!! With three fish caught and returned , it was nice heading back on the A470 seeing the sun start to dip over the Beacons , back soon !!!!

Sunny day with some strong gusts of wind blowing in the dam wall direction. Not much surface activity in the morning. First fish caught from dam wall on floating line with 9ft leader attached to a gold headed hairs ear nymph. A strong pull and acrobatic fish in perfect condition around 10 oz. Worked around the road side of the reservoir from about half way along towards the forest end. Not much happening and lots of weed. Back to dam wall mid afternoon and lots of surface feeding close in. Second fish fell to a spider. Great venue and stunning scenery. Take care of slippery rocks and moss.

Refugees from an unfishable Ty-Newydd. We worked our way along the west bank for a couple of hours after arriving - not an easy task. Little evidence of fish but plenty of rain, quite heavy at times. After a late lunch watching exhausted soldiers "yomping" down the track to the car park we resumed fishing in the west corner of the dam where the occasional fish was showing. We each landed a dark bronze 12" trout and had other near misses fishing a variety of traditional wets.
