Didn’t fish this beat we walked the beat first and access to the water was very poor and the hill on the way back was to much for us

The river was low and clear but the weather was perfect really for the time of year.

We all fished the stick float, trotting meat all day and ended up having a fantastic day, netting 30 Chub and 5 Barbel between the 3 of us. Some nice Chub, easily up to the 4 and half pound mark and amongst the Barbel were two 7lb+, the biggest weighing 7lb 11oz.

A brilliant day, making the walk back to the car and up "that hill" very much worth it!

Fished the top of the beat in the faster water. Despite being able to see the bottom all the way across I found some chub in the pool below the shallow rapids and a couple of bonus barbel later on the feeder. Then got drenched in the thunder storm walking back to the car! Chub to 4.8. Both barbel about 8lb.

The water level was predictably very low so much so you could see the bottom along most of the stretch with one or two deeper pegs, however the pegs were so high on the bank unfortunately my landing net failed to reach the water! Having found some rapids further up the stretch i thought this was my best offer for the day, although it was hard going from the off i did manage to catch two Chub between 4-5lb but it soon went quiet after that. After attempting several other swims without success, i decided to call it a day and head to the nearest pub.
Thanks WUF and land owners for obtaining great access to a great river and all the wildlife that it holds.
I'll be back again soon!

Bait and wait approach in a deep gully between streamer weed - resulted in the blankety blank cheque book and pen!

As reported by many grumpy anglers before me, conditions weren’t great due to the lack of fresh rain from mid Wales. I’ve learned that fish get both lively and hungry after a downpour and also don’t mind getting wet so the more rain the better – they’re not keen on raw sewage mind.

Ever optimistic, we trudged down the hill in search of some fast water or a feature that might hold some fish. After a damp 15-minute walk up and down the bank we couldn’t choose a spot we truly believed in so decided to only fish in the morning. We also booked Fownhope 5 for the next day, knowing that there’s a better chance to get a bend in the rod in the fast gulley.

The few hours that we did fish were eventful though. One of us broke a landing net, the other fell in the water (again) and the third member managed to catch 2 barbel and a chub in the very end peg (all on magic pellet).

We retired to our digs around one for sausage and beans on toast. Delicious.
