Stayed at the Natures Nest at the Ballingham village end of the beat (fantastic place!) and just a short walk to the river. 6 chub from the end field first swim in the field, on float and feeder and a further 4 from the swim to the right of the concrete platform on float. Pellets used and pre baiting whilst moving between the swims worked for us

River in poor condition. Low levels and lots of weed. Most of the fishery is unfishable. Chiblets seen throughout but no barbel. Barely any bites on the tip.

1 chub from one of the few bits of river accessible. Lovely area and conditions weren’t exactly in our favour with it being hot and sunny but the beat is in dire need of some maintenance to make it accessible for anglers.

Arrived at 5.15am, light drizzle and very humid, with weather set to improve later that morning. River was very low and gin clear, I walked from the car park to the top end of the beat trying to find any fishable spots but very few were found, I settled in the small beach area opposite the island as this looked a prime spot. Fished for about 3 hours and only two bites before contemplating a move, wound the rod in and walked up the beat to find another spot, on returning found two ladies wild swimming in my peg !! they very apologetic but they said they had no where else to access the water.
Worked my way back to the viaduct where I knew there were one or two accessible swims only to find there were anglers on the opposite side and not wanting to encroach on their water I opted to walk the bottom section where to river slowed in the hope of finding a suitable spot, having trudged a @ 1/2 mile and no swims found I returned to the viaduct and decided to call it a day early .
Blank saved with a nice 4.5lb Chub ..
Thanks WUF and the land owners for giving us anglers great access to a great river.

Luckily reconned the lay of the land the previous night, as the gate access easy to misses overgrown and not used for a while.. Long track down to riverbank along old rail track. Steep 40 odd ,well maintained steps down.... good exercise!, which I enjoy, but certainly not for the unfit. The buttresses of the old rail line certainly great to behold, always wondered where they were... having seen many iconic photos.
As for fishing ,chub fest all day. With some bank clearance could be best stretch on the Wye!!!!
2 people booked on as through W&U Website....... If Elvis and Lord Lucan had been there when I left it wouldn't have surprised me!! I counted 4 different anglers during the day.

Good Barbel fishing but some accessibility issues - hard work getting to and into the few fishable swims and older and/or less physically capable anglers should be made aware of this.

6 Barbel
