The barbel are still spawning (I observed this one evening on the camp site I was staying at)so I think they are two to three weeks behind due to the low Spring/early Summer temperatures.
A hot day and the water at normal levels. Fished the upper section with its fast water without a knock in three hours and decided to pack up and drive to the lower section as this water was new to me. On walking all that I decided not to fish any more that day.

River rising very fast after major rain last night, roads flooded everywhere. Didn't arrive until 12.30pm. Fished for 3 hours with 6 oz leads, under the rod tops, having to wind in and clear the line every 5-10 mins. River 4ft up on arrival, 6 ft on departure. Fished 30m below bridge and 250m down. 4 barbel, biggest 6.5lbs. No fish for the other rod, so just the 4 barbel for me.

2 x barbel caught. One of 5.5lb and one 7.5lb. Caught on halibut pellets. Absolutely lovely beat. Very quiet and peaceful on a misty grey November day. Expectations were low for barbel as it is getting late in the year, so really delighted with the results. Banks very slippery!

4 Barbel caught between 6lb and 8lb, all on Halibut pellet and open-end feeder. Fishing was hard as the river was very coloured and well up. We were limited to fishing a couple of rod lengths out with 3oz of lead due to the flow. Fished below the Bridge and in a large eddy halfway down the stretch. Nice stretch although the access track was a bit tricky to drive back up after heavy rain.

Lovely day but river felt out of sorts. Two barbel, both out of the blue, both on pellet, plus a couple of chub and chublets. Fished the bottom of the stretch for first time (Usually descend from old bridge at top. Very different at bottom - steadier flow.
