Given the hot , windy and sunny conditions with the level at 0.1m at RoW, this was always going to be a challenging day for the 3 of us fishing.

The video on the WUF website overstates how easy it is to fish and most pegs required above average agility. The meadow area does not have many accessible swims. Not much sign of recent bank maintenance. Note the opposite bank appears to be some form of club water with numerous cut out swims. 3 anglers fished opposite and we did not notice them catch anything

Having said that 4 chub were caught on the float , the best going around 5Lbs and the day was made by a very nice 7Lb thickset barbel that went off like a train.

Despite the barbel, this is probably not a fishery we would be returning to .

Found a couple of spots that the barbel seemed to hold in. Lovely beat but the top half needs some attention and the swims from last year are now not accessible.

This was our first trip to the Wye hoping to catch a Barbel. Relatively inexperienced when it comes to rivers but fish alot of still waters so hard to say if our returns were down to inexperience or fishing conditions.

All 4 anglers fished the sheep drink swim as this was the only spot we could all get in. Water level looked low but a few fish showed as we arrived. 3 chub averaging around 3-4 lb were caught on the feeder using pellets and luncheon meat. We also took a bonus pike of around 8lb which took a pellet on the retrieve and somehow stayed on.

First session of the season and again confirmation that the endangered eel seems to be present in numbers up the Wye. Four up to 2lbs came to turmeric spiced meat in the first part of the morning.
Tried halibut pellet after the eel action but there was no interest shown.
Back on meat, two six pound barbel came to the net then another, larger one was hooked and played for a couple of minutes until I tangled the rod tip in an overhanging branch. Duh. It looked like Goodnight Nurse but managed to untangle and the barbel was still on. Played him carefully for half a minute then Ping. Fish and hook separated.
Nothing hooked first part of the afternoon despite numerous bumps and torches so called it a day.
