Really odd. River looked perfect. A decent lift in the water level, plenty of colour but only about 1m of height. 4 of us fished hard in all the known pegs for a total of 1 bite on opening day. And that was an eel…

We suspect that something must have washed in to the river to knock the fish so off the feed. We didn’t even get the usual tip rattles from chublets.

Another enjoyable day at Wyastone Leys, with dry overcast conditions. The river had dropped considerably since my last visit. Decided to split the day in half with the morning in the woods (the swim by the steps) and the afternoon at the large cattle drink in the second meadow field.
All the chub were caught on meat, with the largest being between 11/2 and 2lb.

Enjoyable day. Good temperature and mainly cloudy.
Not fished this stretch before and liked the location and easy access to the fishery. River had a bit of colour and a good flow.
Fished with running ledger and used pva mesh attached to hair rig with red pellet. 2 good barbel. Largest tipped the scales at 8 1/2lb and the other just over 7lbs. Lost a couple too. Fished the top end all morning and went home early in the afternoon. Banks are a bit slippery so take care.

More than happy to return to this venue.

Conditions seemed perfect but the fishing was tough, 1 fish banked all day which was an eel and unfortunately 1 fish lost suspect it was a barbel :(
