First time on this beat so always an exciting prospect. Greeted by a very chocolate brown fast flowing, rising river, so decided to walk the beat to seek out any possible swims. Chose to start at the church end and work back trying the slack areas close in. The one other was an eel, caught on cheese, our only bite of the morning. Had a break and decided to give the wooded swims a try, opted for about the 7th swim along, using cheese and garlic soft hookers wrapped in meaty paste, which resulted in the 2 barbel ( 5lb and 7lb 12oz). With the river continuing to rise we called it a day, but will return on a normal day.

Stunning beat, we parked at the church and started in the fields, plenty of options and caught from there and the woods. It’s a fair walk so travel light !

Limited number of swims accessible. Water in perfect condition. Fish came late in the day just after light dropped. Halibut pellet on straight lead did the biz. 8lb 4 and 8lb 3 on the scales.

Looked to be great conditions, but river was running through more quickly than expected and wading wasn't attempted. Difficult start for all with only one eel and one Dace landed. Round about 3ish, things began to tick over, with 3 Barbel being banked in fairly quick succession (7lb,5lb, 3lb) followed by some decent Chub (4lb+ being the largest). Variety of tactics used, Barbel fell to ledgered luncheon meat. Chub took trotted corn and meat. Would love to visit with water down a little and slightly less pace. On one swim, there was clear evidence of Pike fishing having taken place (dead Sprats), thought this wasn't allowed. One or two swims in woods hampered by snags close in. Tricky, but enjoyable.

New beat for us. After walking the length, we all decided to fish in the wood. The river had run off with no colour in the water which hindered our chances. We still managed a few fish on a nice beat.
