An afternoon/evening session hoping for a mayfly hatch. There weren’t many around, although the trout did lock on for half an hour in the evening, beautiful fat and colourful Lugg fish as usual, best 14”. A few pea in a pod 8 inch grayling getting ready for the season to open too. Last knockings a couple of fish were rising under the footbridge – James twitched a mayfly over them which got hammered and a good fish charged down the pool, despite his best efforts it got under the bushes and that was that. Never mind, 10 seemed like a good evening.

First time on this lovely beat. A full day's fishing.
Mostly cloudy about 14C. Walked to the bottom of the beat and fished my way up. River was completely cloudy as it had been raining the previous days. Lots of insect life, saw the occasional rise and landed a tiddler that way. Tried all sorts of things to overcome the pea-soup and was rewarded with a wonderful brownie that was about 12" I guess. Fabulous fish, happily returned to fight another day. I'll be back :)

Bright sunny day but still cool and the water low and cold. Not a single rising fish seen but managed a few grayling on a small purple tungsten glitzy nymph. Didn’t see anything hatching and not even any terrestrials around. Still great fun and a lovely beat

This trip was mainly to introduce a friend to, MD from Stourbridge, fly fishing. This beat was chosen because of its easy wading, and unimpeded casting in some areas.
After some brief casting tuition we entered the water, which was very cold.
The weather was bright and cool, but warmed up during the day. There was hardly any wind to speak of, which was all ideal for a beginner.
Unfortunately the fish didn't want to play at all, the grayling were all very small. I managed to catch two accidentally, when my nymph had swung round behind us. MD finally caught one tiny grayling, which was a bonus.
Two other things to note is that there was a lot of dead plant material coming down the river which may have affected the fishing. The other thing was that MD managed to spot two small lampreys, and a bullhead two species I rarely see!

Lovely to be out again, on this bright, sunny spring day. The OOS grayling were definitely in a feeding mood, but the trout did show up later in the day. All fish caught on a GRHE variant, mostly from deeper pools.

Great to be fishing again!

Wonderful beat full of twists, turns, deeps and shallows .... plenty of lost flies on caught trees, plenty of commando approach casts, plenty of wildlife (roe deer, Goshawk, grass snake) and also a few fish as well ! This is how it should be. Loved it
